It\u2019s simply a reality of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/progressive-uk-finally-draws-line-sand-gives-transgender-lesson-biology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">human biology<\/a>,\u201d Reynolds <a href=\"https:\/\/governor.iowa.gov\/press-release\/gov-reynolds-signs-bill-protecting-girls%E2%80%99-sports-in-iowa%C2%A0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Thursday while signing the bill, surrounded by smiling young women and girls. \u201cForcing females to compete against males is the opposite of inclusivity and it\u2019s\u00a0absolutely unfair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt worries me that this bill is needed at all. It\u2019s hard to imagine how anyone who cares about the rights of women and girls could support anything less,\u201d she also said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/03\/03\/1084278181\/transgender-girls-and-women-now-barred-from-female-sports-in-iowa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to NPR<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe message that women are so much more than a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/study-finds-trans-athletes-still-advantage-women-entire-year-hormone-therapy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hormone level<\/a>, that the things girls love are worth protecting and their hard work and dedication is recognized and their dreams can become a reality,\u201d local track star Ainsley Erzen, who has been an outspoken proponent for protecting women\u2019s and girl\u2019s sports, said at the signing ceremony.<\/p>\n<div id=\"in-article-trending\" class=\"in-article-more inner-content\">\n<p>Trending:<\/p>\n<div class=\"in-article-more-right\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/former-ag-bill-barr-says-seen-epstein-prison-footage-proves-leading-theory\/\" data-type=\"Internal link\" data-type-location=\"in-content-trending\">Former AG Bill Barr Says He Has Seen Epstein Prison Footage, And It Proves a Leading Theory<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Iowa is the latest of several states to pass legislation protecting women\u2019s sports. Last year was a record-breaking year for such legislation; 37 states drafted <a href=\"https:\/\/savewomenssports.com\/state-legislation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">similar bills<\/a> with Idaho, Montana, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, West Virginia and Florida successfully passing measures restricting women and girls\u2019 sports to female athletes only.<\/p>\n<p>The issue has been drawing attention across the nation for some time, but college swimmer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/transgender-swimmer-lia-thomas-posts-record-time-win-womens-title\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lia Thomas<\/a> of the University of Pennsylvania, who has been enjoying a wildly successful career on the women\u2019s team after competing on the men\u2019s team for three years, has brought the issue to the forefront in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>Proponents of transgender athletes in women\u2019s and girls\u2019 sports were out in full force on Thursday as Reynolds signed the legislation, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/complete-disaster-iowa-dems-blasted-total-caucus-meltdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iowa\u2019s Democrats<\/a> unsuccessfully opposed.<\/p>\n<p>Becky Smith, the executive director of the LGBT youth organization Iowa Safe Schools stood behind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/governor-reveals-rejected-biden-admin-request-house-immigrants-roughly-1000-miles-border\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reynolds<\/a> and silently held up a transgender flag in what the group said was a display of solidarity for transgender athletes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just a reminder that transgender students matter, that they\u2019re here, that they\u2019re not going anywhere,\u201d she said, NPR reported. \u201cDespite the fact that their rights are being infringed upon by the passage of this bill, we stand with them. We have not forgotten them and the fight continues for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/public-school-curriculum-asks-kids-pretend-gay-role-play-plan-sex-graphic-content-warning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LGBTQ youth<\/a> across the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Today, we stood in solidarity with our trans students at the Iowa Capitol. It highlights the stark reality that absolutely no one thinks that female athletes will have an unfair advantage over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/austin-debunking-aclus-defense-trans-athletes-womens-sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">male athletes<\/a> if allowed to compete in men\u2019s and boys\u2019 sports. (Under HR 2416, female athletes who identify as male are still free to play on boys\u2019 and men\u2019s teams.)<\/p>\n<p>Something we rarely discuss, but ought to, is that transgender advocates seem to take for granted that transgender athletes somehow need to compete in sports \u2014 or that, as Smith said, they have a \u201cright\u201d to, in fact.<\/p>\n<p>I have my strong opinions about what people who identify as members of the opposite sex need, and it is most certainly not for their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/want-destroy-survivor-speaks-bidens-transgender-agenda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deep-seated psychological issues<\/a> to be ignored while they undergo hormone therapy, life-altering surgeries and wardrobe transformations.<\/p>\n<div id=\"in-article-related\" class=\"in-article-more inner-content\">\n<p>Related:<\/p>\n<div class=\"in-article-more-right\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trans-swimmer-lia-thomas-gunning-change-womens-sports-forever\/\" data-type=\"Internal link\" data-type-location=\"in-content-related\">Trans Swimmer Lia Thomas Gunning to Change Women&#8217;s Sports Forever<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Yet even if we concede that transgender people \u201chave a right to exist,\u201d i.e., ought to be \u201callowed\u201d to live their lives in the pursuit of an outward appearance that resembles the gender they believe themselves to be in spite of their biology, why do we assume this means they have the \u201cright\u201d to do everything as though they were a member of the opposite sex?<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps if this very small portion of the population that identifies as transgender wishes to pursue the drastic physical changes that are considered necessary for them to live lives as their \u201ctrue selves,\u201d they can respectfully accept that athletics is something they\u2019ll have to give up?<\/p>\n<p>This strikes at the root of many of the worldview issues which interfere with sensible, compassionate conversations about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/victims-childhood-transgenderism-spoken-time-joe-biden-listen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">transgenderism<\/a>. It\u2019s never been about helping people who identify as members of the opposite sex, it\u2019s always been about demanding that all of society agree that men can be women and must be treated as such, and if you disagree, clearly you\u2019re a hateful bigot.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\" class=\"one-half\">\n<p>Do you support protecting women&#8217;s sports?<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-results\">\n<p>\nYes: 100% (616 Votes)\n<\/p>\n<p>\nNo: 0% (0 Votes)\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>And this is precisely why lawmakers cannot flinch when they set about making sure that female athletes retain their right to compete on an equal playing field \u2014 because it is simply not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/obama-disciple-takes-school-trashes-horrified-parents-full-bigoted-bull\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bigoted<\/a>, it is not hateful, it is not discriminatory to recognize the biological reality of transgenderism and how it might leave female athletes at a disadvantage to compete against biological males, regardless of how they identify or appear to the naked eye.<\/p>\n<p>No one\u2019s rights are being infringed \u2014 no one, that is, except for women, whose rights were established under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/title-ix-rejected-read\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Title IX<\/a> federal protections, allowing them to compete on a level, safe playing field.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, it was only a few decades ago that feminists were passionately fighting for a fair space for women in sports. For all my disagreements with modern feminism, this is one point I believe they got 100 percent right.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s nothing feminist at all about taking women-only spaces away from them, least of all for a man who probably needs much, much more from society than to simply be allowed to compete against a woman as though he actually was one.<\/p>\n<p>The bullying has gone on too long.
