and, of course, climate change is a big, global problem that requires big, global solutions.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>We need multilateral agreements like the Paris Agreement.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>We need international fora like COP.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>During her speech, this top-tier cabinet official made no mention of \u201cRussia,\u201d \u201cUkraine,\u201d or \u201cPutin.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Nor did she use the word \u201cproduction,\u201d as in, more energy production.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_20127274\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20127274\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/GettyImages-1236301568.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">President Joe Biden addresses a press conference at the COP26 UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow on November 2, 2021. (BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In the minds of the Biden folks, the climate change issue sails along, untroubled by news from Eastern Europe.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>So the fact that Russia is the world\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldometers.info\/oil\/oil-production-by-country\/\">third-largest<\/a> oil producer, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/264101\/world-natural-gas-production-by-country\/\">second-largest<\/a> natural gas producer\u2014and that the U.S. is doing nothing to stop Russia from selling hydrocarbons, thereby financing its aggression\u2014meant little to those<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>assembled at the Treasury Department.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><i>Their<\/i> work was talking about climate change.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, since the Biden administration has chosen to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/energy-economics\/commentary\/bidens-many-anti-energy-policies-are-hurting-producers-consumers-alike\">crimp U.S. production<\/a>, the Russians are the big winners.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>How so?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Because if we produce less, the Russians will gain market share, and in the meantime, as supply tightens, the price is demanded up\u2014and that helps the Russians even more.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0I<\/span>n the past two weeks, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/commodities\/crude-oil-historical-data\">price of oil<\/a> has risen by nearly a quarter; great news for the financiers of Putin\u2019s war machine.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_20117746\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20117746\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/GettyImages-1238891410-e1646425318859.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"639\" height=\"479\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The prices for gas and diesel fuel, over $6.00 a gallon, are displayed at a petrol station in Los Angeles, March 2, 2022. BROWN\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Yet none of this strategic calculus\u2014<i>that the U.S. is helping to finance the terror-war we decry<\/i>\u2014has intruded on the Bidenites. \u00a0 (And let\u2019s remember, too, that some left-wing Democrats are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2022\/03\/05\/jayapal-gas-prices-will-go-up-no-matter-what-and-we-need-to-move-off-fossil-fuels\/\">happy<\/a> with higher prices.)<\/p>\n<p>So while the commander-in-chief can <em>say<\/em> that he\u2019s shifting his emphasis to the Ukraine crisis, it\u2019s not apparent that those supposedly under his command are feeling any need to shift.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 But wait, what all those sanctions the Biden administration says it\u2019s imposing? Well, what about them:\u00a0first off, they do <em>not<\/em> apply to Russia\u2019s energy exports; second, Yellen\u2019s\u00a0Treasury Department clarified on March 4 that they will also not apply to\u00a0financial trading on Russian energy. <\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">That means, in Treasury\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/03\/04\/treasury-department-assures-wall-street-it-can-still-trade-russian-oil.html\">words<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u201cenergy-related activities\u2013including the purchase, sale, or transport of Russian-origin oil, gas, or other energy-related products by U.S. or non-U.S. persons\u2014remain permissible.\u201d \u00a0In other words, the biggest sector of the Russian\u00a0economy is left wide open, open for business. \u00a0Oh wait, sanctions will be imposed, Treasury says, but not until <em>June 24<\/em>. That\u2019s three long months\u00a0from now; how many Ukrainians will be killed, exiled, or tyrannized by then? \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We can step back and observe that it would take an enormous effort to make sure that a message of change trickles down to the 4,000 or so Biden appointees across the executive branch, as well as the tens of thousands of career Deep Statists at the Environmental Protection Agency and fellow activists scattered across dozens of greened federal agencies. And does Biden seem to be an energetic change agent?<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Let\u2019s keep in mind that\u00a0these people, climate change isn\u2019t merely an important issue, it\u2019s <i>the<\/i> issue.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0S<\/span>o just because the president gives a speech or two on Ukraine, before heading off to Delaware, that doesn\u2019t do enough\u2013not nearly enough\u2013to enforce a genuine whole-of-government shift toward concern about the bloody conflict and its implications for U.S. policy. \u00a0The deep greens, who came to power to fight climate change, not Russia,\u00a0can keep the faith, same as it ever was.<\/p>\n<p>After all, the Biden underlings know that the president has said many times that climate change is <i>really<\/i> important; for instance, on November 1, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/world\/live-news\/cop26-climate-summit-intl-11-01-21\/h_51ac65e9640565572a1707e2fef6cb50\">he proclaimed<\/a> it to be \u201cthe existential threat to human existence as we know it.\u201d So to judge the 46th president by the totality of his words, nothing he has said lately about Ukraine will convince a green activist-bureaucrat that there\u2019s any reason to ease up on the rush to de-carbonize. Thus\u00a0it\u2019s amusing\u2014in an unfunny way\u2014to realize that on February 24, the very day that the Russians invaded, Biden\u2019s Department of Energy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-02\/Carbon%20Capture%20Supply%20Chain%20Report%20-%20Final%202.25.25.pdf\">reiterated<\/a> its pious green commitments:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The U.S. is committed to achieving a 50 to 52 percent reduction from 2005 levels in economy-wide net greenhouse gas pollution by 2030, creating a carbon pollution-free power sector by 2035, and achieving net zero emissions economy-wide by no later than 2050.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>We might pause over these commitments: The U.S. itself may, or may not, ever achieve these climate goals, and, in the meantime, there\u2019s good reason to doubt that the rest of the world will be with us.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Most obviously, does anybody think that the Russians are interested in playing along?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Or how about Russia\u2019s ally China, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/russia-china-tell-nato-stop-expansion-moscow-backs-beijing-taiwan-2022-02-04\/#:~:text=BEIJING\/%20MOSCOW\/WASHINGTON,%20Feb%204%20(Reuters)%20-%20China%20and,a%20promise%20to%20collaborate%20more%20against%20the%20West.\">declared<\/a> last month that the Beijing-Moscow alliance has \u201cno limits\u201d?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 And<\/span>\u00a0what about the green sincerity of the 160 or so countries outside of North America and the European Union? <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0Do we see any Greta\u00a0<\/span>Thunbergs in India? \u00a0Or Indonesia? \u00a0Or Nigeria?<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_20127234\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20127234\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/GettyImages-1238174428.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1234\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Russian President Vladimir Putin (left) and Chinese Communist Party Leader Xi Jinping pose during their meeting in Beijing, on February 4, 2022. (Alexei Druzhinin\/Sputnik\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Given the way of the world, one has to wonder what, exactly, the Western greens think is going to happen in the decades ahead.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Do they really believe that the energy-hungry peoples of the world are going to obey the wishes of the U.S. (for as long as it is led by Democrats) and the Europeans?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Is the rest of the world that in awe of the West,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0e<\/span>specially as the West sits by helplessly as the Russians crush Ukraine?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Does that display of weakness encourage others to emulate us?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Indeed, the fact that the Russians are so obviously ignoring the climate and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/03\/04\/boris-consults-with-zelensky-after-russia-accused-nuclear-terror\/\">other environmental<\/a>\u00a0effects of their aggression only further underscores Western weakness.<\/p>\n<p>Yet no world event seems to penetrate the smug complacency\u2014mixed with a kind of smug <i>urgency<\/i>\u2014of the greens.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Why is this?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Because they\u2019ve built themselves their own little happy dollhouse, giving free rein to their fancies.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>In that green playland, Mr. Bad News is <i>not<\/i> welcome.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-size: larger;\">If Only You Believe<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>For the last three decades, as the issue morphed from \u201cglobal warming\u201d to the more catch-all \u201cclimate change,\u201d the motley crew of greens have become well-funded and rich. They\u2019ve become <i>Big Green<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>And, along the way, Big Green has created its own parallel world\u2014simultaneously expensive and childish\u2014which weirdly mimics venerable diplomatic and security institutions.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>So whereas once the world watched summits where, say, wars were ended, these days, Big Green has its own \u201chigh stakes\u201d summits, such as COP (for Conference of the Parties) 26, which self-aggrandizingly <a href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/process\/bodies\/supreme-bodies\/conference-of-the-parties-cop\">bills itself<\/a> as \u201cthe supreme decision-making body\u201d of the United Nations\u2019 campaign against climate change.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>(The \u201c26,\u201d by the way, indicates that last year\u2019s Glasgow summit was the 26th such annual meeting, which shows that this has been a long-playing gravy train for conference-goers.)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_20127314\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20127314\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/GettyImages-1236516395.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Climate change activists wearing masks of Boris Johnson and Joe Biden protest outside the entrance to the COP26 site on November 12, 2021 in Glasgow, as World Leaders meet to discuss climate change. (Peter Summers\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Astonishingly, total annual expenditures for climate-change research and mitigation amount to <a href=\"https:\/\/meansandmatters.bankofthewest.com\/article\/sustainable-living\/taking-action\/who-funds-the-fight-against-climate-change\/\">$632 billion<\/a>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>For that kind of money, it\u2019s no surprise that people everywhere want in.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>For instance, as Breitbart News reported last year, Richard Moore, the head of MI6,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Britain\u2019s top intelligence agency, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/04\/27\/mi6-spying-nations-ensure-abide-climate-change-pledges\/\">pledged<\/a> to use MI6 resources to spy on other countries to verify their compliance with climate-change pledges.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Such \u201cgreen spying\u201d is needed, Moore said, to address the \u201cclimate emergency . . . the <em><strong>foremost international foreign policy agenda item<\/strong><\/em> for this country and for the planet.\u201d (emphasis added)<\/p>\n<p>Got that?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>So the threat from Russia, China, ISIS, and other genuine malefactors has been downgraded, and green whimsy has been upgraded.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>But meanwhile, more green money for Moore, as he keeps a watchful eye on those dreaded carbon dioxide molecules.<\/p>\n<p>Closer to home, President Biden set the tone for green believers in his first week in office, by issuing an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2021\/01\/27\/executive-order-on-tackling-the-climate-crisis-at-home-and-abroad\/\">Executive Order<\/a> which declared his intention of\u00a0\u201cPUTTING THE CLIMATE CRISIS AT THE CENTER OF UNITED\u00a0STATES FOREIGN POLICY AND NATIONAL SECURITY.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>(Capitalization in original).<\/p>\n<p>To that end, the administration hired Special Presidential Envoy for Climate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/biographies\/john-kerry\/\">John Kerry<\/a>, White House National Climate Advisor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/CPO\/\">Gina McCarthy<\/a>, and numerous others across the government\u2014many of them, of course, blessed with limos and access to government aircraft\u2014including those greens who set up that March 3 conference at the Treasury Department.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s right, even with a war raging, and the Russians spewing more CO2 than ever, the greens carry on, telling themselves, and each other, that their work is <i>just as important as, <\/i>maybe even <i>more important than<\/i>, anything happening in and around Ukraine.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_20127298\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20127298\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/GettyImages-1238961213.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">A demonstrator holds a sign next to a gas station during a rally in support of Ukraine in Los Angeles, California, on March 5, 2022. (ARIS MESSINIS\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>This is truly the way green liberals think: that climate change is an \u201cexistential\u201d threat, just as Biden says.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Revealingly, Biden\u2019s Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/News-Stories\/Article\/Article\/2582051\/defense-secretary-calls-climate-change-an-existential-threat\/\">used<\/a> the same word: \u201cexistential,\u201d to describe the supposed climate danger; such thinking is thus seeping into the <a href=\"https:\/\/media.defense.gov\/2021\/Oct\/21\/2002877353\/-1\/-1\/0\/DOD-CLIMATE-RISK-ANALYSIS-FINAL.PDF\">DOD bureaucracy<\/a>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Speaking of deep bureaucracy, the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Gutteres, also <a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/en\/story\/2018\/05\/1009782\">describes<\/a> climate change as an \u201cexistential\u201d threat.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Of course, CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/06\/04\/health\/climate-change-existential-threat-report-intl\/index.html\">shares<\/a> the sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>So we can see: Green liberals have convinced themselves that they are fighting an epic war, a good war, akin to say, World War II.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Only this time, the enemy is not Hitler, but CO2.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>And so for them, the prospect of Russia conquering Ukraine\u2014and all that that entails, in terms of suffering Ukrainians and signal-sending to bad actors elsewhere around the world\u2014does nothing to change their thinking.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>They don\u2019t worry about an atomic <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2022\/03\/03\/ukraine-war-russia-world-war-iii-nuclear-arsenal\/\">World War III<\/a>, they worry about World War <i>E<\/i>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>That is, E for <i>Environment<\/i>, E for <i>Existential<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, on March 2, as the Russian invasion grew even more threatening, when Vladimir Putin issued a nuclear alert, green liberal journalist Peter Beinart <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeterBeinart\/status\/1499203732340416512\">tweeted<\/a> that nobody should be \u201cany less cavalier about nuclear annihilation than climate annihilation.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Why should they be any less cavalier about nuclear annihilation than climate annihilation? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wDAt9YHxKr\">https:\/\/t.co\/wDAt9YHxKr<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Peter Beinart (@PeterBeinart) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeterBeinart\/status\/1499203732340416512?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In such a mental context\u2014where the emissions from auto tailpipes are just as dangerous as an a-bomb\u2014it\u2019s little wonder that the Biden administration has not moved on energy policy.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0Naturally,<\/span>\u00a0White House chief of staff Ron Klain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2022\/03\/03\/klain-sanctioning-russian-oil-would-hurt-unity-thats-made-the-sanctions-work\/\">dismisses<\/a> the idea of cutting off Russian oil imports.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>To which Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenTomCotton\/status\/1499778728150327298\">responded<\/a>, \u201cAt $112 per barrel, the United States is sending\u00a0$22.4M to fund\u00a0Putin\u2019s war machine today.
