Extraordinary times demand extraordinary measures,\u201d Musk tweeted. \u201cObviously, this would negatively affect Tesla, but sustainable energy solutions simply cannot react instantaneously to make up for Russian oil &#038; gas exports.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Obviously, this would negatively affect Tesla, but sustainable energy solutions simply cannot react instantaneously to make up for Russian oil &#038; gas exports.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1499909806504779779?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 5, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Musk\u2019s tweet comes as energy prices have been a problem under Democrat President Joe Biden, and there has been widespread support to cut U.S. imports of Russian oil in the wake of Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s decision to invade Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA broad bipartisan majority of Americans think the United States should stop buying Russian oil,\u201d Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/us-weighs-cutting-russian-oil-imports-white-house-2022-03-04\/\">reported<\/a>. \u201cSome 80% of Americans \u2013 including solid majorities of Republicans and Democrats \u2013 support the measure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Wall Street Journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/why-does-the-u-s-still-buy-russian-oil-11646151935\">reported<\/a> that the U.S. imported approximately 672,000 barrels of oil a day from Russia and that during Biden\u2019s first year in office \u201cU.S. imports of Russian crude hit the highest levels in about a decade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked this week about whether continuing to buy Russian oil was effectively \u201cfinancing the war\u201d in Europe, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tried to downplay it, saying, \u201cit\u2019s only about 10 percent of what we\u2019re importing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve not made any announcement about any decision on that front, but our objective here and our focus is making sure that any step we take maximizes the impact on President Putin and minimizes it on the American people,\u201d Psaki said. \u201cAnd anyone who\u2019s calling for an end to the carveout should be clear that that would rise \u2014 raise prices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s second largest oil company, Lukoil, which employs more than 100,000 people and produces a sizeable portion of the world\u2019s oil supply, has called for an end to Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>The company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lukoil.com\/PressCenter\/Pressreleases\/Pressrelease?rid=577636\">said<\/a> in a statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The Board of Directors of LUKOIL expresses herewith its deepest concerns about the tragic events in Ukraine. Calling for the soonest termination of the armed conflict, we express our sincere empathy for all victims, who are affected by this tragedy.
