It provides no exceptions for victims of rape, incest or human trafficking. Existing Florida law restricts abortions after 24 weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The legislation is headed to Republican Governor Ron DeSantis\u2019s desk, who is expected to sign it into law. It is anticipated to take effect on July 1.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2022\/5\/BillText\/er\/PDF\"><span class=\"s1\">bill<\/span><\/a>, H.B. 5, allows for abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy if \u201c[t]he fetus has not achieved viability \u2026 and two physicians certify in writing that, in reasonable medical judgement, the fetus has a fatal fetal abnormality.\u201d It also allows exceptions for the life of the mother, as well, or if it is to \u201cavert a serious risk of imminent substantial and irreversible physical impairment of a major bodily function of the pregnant woman other than a psychological condition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The action is the most recent effort for many Republican legislatures to move towards limiting abortion and enacting pro-life measures as the fate of <i>Roe v. Wade<\/i> and other Supreme Court abortion-related decisions are in the hands of the high court.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Supreme Court heard oral arguments late last year on the\u00a0<i>Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/i>\u00a0case out of Mississippi over a law there that doesn\u2019t allow abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The high court could choose to uphold the Mississippi law, cutting away at the precedent established by\u00a0<i>Planned Parenthood v. Casey\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<i>Roe v. Wade.\u00a0<\/i>The Justices could also decide to overturn\u00a0<i>Roe\u00a0<\/i>entirely or to strike down the law. If\u00a0<i>Roe v. Wade\u00a0<\/i>is overturned, the decisions regarding abortion would be returned to the states rather than made legal on a broad scale across the country.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Arizona and West Virginia are also reportedly looking at pro-life measures that are similar to the 15-week ban.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The sponsor of the Florida bill was state Senator Kelli Stargel (R-Lakeland), who thanked God through tears.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI never dreamed I\u2019d be standing here today, but actually being able to save the life of babies,\u201d Stargel said. \u201cGod is so good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">She also addressed senators who are parents, as well, including Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book who has two small children. Book had discussed her experience being gang-raped as a teenager as she asked Republicans to include exemptions.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThose of you who have children try to convince us,\u201d Stargel said. \u201cYou saw that sonogram, you saw that baby the moment you found out you were pregnant or your wife was pregnant, it was a baby.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Prior to the Thursday vote, Book said, \u201cIt became clear, no matter what we do, no matter how hard we try, there will be no exemptions for rape or incest or human trafficking,\u201d adding, \u201cEven if they just needed more time.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u201cWe may not win this battle, but the women of Florida are not done with this fight,\u201d Book also said. \u201cThis is the beginning, not the end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/desperate-dems-spent-hours-trying-to-stop-a-florida-pro-life-bill-they-just-failed\"><span class=\"s3\">reported<\/span><\/a> on Thursday, <\/span>Democratic lawmakers in Florida\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fox8.com\/news\/abortion-ban-dads-would-have-to-pay-child-support-at-15-weeks-under-new-amendment\/\"><span class=\"s1\">submitted<\/span><\/a>\u00a013 amendments this week to the 15-week abortion ban, HB 5, the Reducing Fetal and Infant Mortality Act, which passed the statehouse in February and is expected to pass the state Senate Thursday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe governor supports pro-life legislation and is not responding to outcry from pro-abortion activists,\u201d Governor Ron DeSantis\u2019s spokeswoman Christina Pushaw told The Daily Wire Thursday. \u201cThe bottom line is that they\u2019re demanding abortion after 15 weeks, which is when the fetus can already feel pain and is near viability; babies born as early as 20 weeks have survived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
