The e-commerce company does not allow military vehicles like tanks to be sold on its website.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Fact Check:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Social media users have recently been sharing videos and photos of abandoned and destroyed Russian military vehicles, seemingly stemming from the ongoing war in Ukraine, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/russia-ukraine-kyiv-army-tanks-abandoned-1683584\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Newsweek<\/a>. Now, an image being shared on Facebook claims \u201cUkrainians are selling used Russian Tanks on eBay.\u201d The image shows what appears to be an eBay listing for a \u201cused Russian T-72 tank\u201d priced at \u201cUS $400,000.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The alleged listing is a digital fabrication. The photo of the tank used in the listing can be traced to the website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defencetalk.com\/military\/photos\/t-72b-1989-mod-modernized-with-k5.42095\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DefenceTalk<\/a>, a site <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defencetalk.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dedicated<\/a> to \u201cmilitary and strategic news and information,\u201d where it was posted in November 2010. The photo description identifies the tank as a T-72B that is \u201cmodernized.\u201d The T-72 tank is considered to be a \u201cbackbone\u201d of the Russian army and was introduced before the dissolution of the Soviet Union, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/why-the-t72-tank-is-backbone-of-the-russian-army-2021-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Business insider<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While sellers on eBay can list certain types of military vehicles for sale, such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.com\/b\/Commercial-Trucks\/63732\/bn_16581784\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">trucks<\/a>, \u201cMost military vehicles, including aircraft and ships, and their parts and accessories,\u201d are not allowed to be sold on the website, according to the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.com\/help\/policies\/prohibited-restricted-items\/military-items-policy?id=4342\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Military Items Policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTanks and any other military vehicles are prohibited for sale under our military items policy,\u201d said a spokesperson for eBay, in a Twitter direct message to Check Your Fact. \u201cThese are fake listings and no tanks have been sold on eBay.\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/03\/03\/fact-check-russian-tanks-ukrainian-woman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>(RELATED: Does This Video Show A Ukrainian Giving Instructions On How To Drive Abandoned Russian Tanks?)<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Several images and videos have been misattributed to the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war. <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/03\/03\/fact-check-russian-tanks-ukrainian-woman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Check Your Fact<\/a> recently debunked a viral video that purportedly shows a Ukrainian woman demonstrating how to drive an abandoned Russian tank.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An image shared on Facebook allegedly shows an eBay listing for a used, \u201cfully functional\u201d Russian tank being sold by Ukrainians.Verdict: False The image is digitally fabricated.
