On February 23, the <em>Picasso<\/em> left Okinawa for the crash site.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">U.S. Navy Recovers F-35C from South China Sea <br \/>Read more below:<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Jj8rx0z8Pg\">https:\/\/t.co\/Jj8rx0z8Pg<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/MCsAT8FmrC\">pic.twitter.com\/MCsAT8FmrC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 7th Fleet (@US7thFleet) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/US7thFleet\/status\/1499405074116001793?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The U.S. 7th Fleet has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c7f.navy.mil\/Media\/News\/Display\/Article\/2953302\/us-navy-recovers-f-35c-from-south-china-sea\/#.YiDdRxQA-Lw.twitter\">issued<\/a> a news release regarding the successful recovery:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The wreckage was recovered from a depth of approximately 12,400-feet by a team from CTF 75 [Commander, Task Force 75] and the NAVSEA\u2019s Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV) embarked on the diving support construction vessel (DSCV) Picasso.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A CURV-21, a 6400 lb remote-operated vehicle (ROV)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.navy.mil\/Resources\/Fact-Files\/Display-FactFiles\/Article\/2173379\/curv-21-remotely-operated-vehicle\/\">used<\/a> for deep-sea salvages of depths up to 20,000 feet, \u201cattached specialized rigging and lift lines to the aircraft,\u201d the statement says. \u201cThe ship\u2019s crane lifting hook was then lowered to the seafloor and connected to the rigging, and then lifted the aircraft to the surface and hoisted it onboard\u00a0Picasso.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The aircraft recovery ensures the technology will not fall into the hands of Communist China and Russia \u2013 countries that could have replicated the craft or gathered clues as to how to combat them, USNI reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the Navy did not specify where the recovery operations occurred, the Japan Coast Guard issued a notice to mariners in late January warning of salvage operations about 170 miles west of the Philippine island of Luzon.\u201d according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>The F-35C will be transported to a close-by military installation in a continuation of the ongoing investigation and will be \u201c<span>evaluated for potential transport to the United States,\u201d the U.S. 7th Fleet\u2019s release said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>After the incident in late January, leaked footage of the crash surfaced, which was corroborated by the Navy, Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2022\/02\/08\/watch-navy-confirms-leaked-footage-of-jet-crashing-aboard-carrier\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Navy Recovers Crashed F-35C From Depths of South China Sea \u2013 USNI News<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/z9nAKTJYGU\">https:\/\/t.co\/z9nAKTJYGU<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gHnUI03QWX\">pic.twitter.com\/gHnUI03QWX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 U.S. Naval Institute (@NavalInstitute) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NavalInstitute\/status\/1499398858161340423?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe $103 million advanced stealth fighter had been recorded making contact with the USS\u00a0<em>Carl Vinson\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0flight deck, catching fire, sliding along the deck, and landing in the water,\u201d Breitbart News wrote in February, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stripes.com\/theaters\/asia_pacific\/2022-02-07\/f-35c-crash-uss-carl-vinson-leaked-video-footage-south-china-sea-4770546.html\">citing<\/a> <em>Stars and Stripes<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The plane injured the pilot, who ejected from F-35C upon impact, and six other sailors, <em>Stars and Stripes<\/em> previously reported.
