It looks just like them,\u201d Mayra Flores, who won one of the Republican nominations in South Texas, told <em>Politico<\/em>. \u201cWe were raised to think that the Republican Party was for the rich and only white men and that\u2019s not true. Look at us. We are the face of the party.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">Flores and\u00a0Trump-backed Monica De La Cruz won the\u00a0Republican nominations for their prospective seats. Sen. Ted Cruz\u2019s (R)\u00a0former aide,\u00a0Cassy Garcia, is in the top spot heading into the May run-off, to face-off against whichever holds the Democrat nomination after May \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/02\/texas-primary-democrat-rep-henry-cuellar-socialist-jessica-cisneros-will-face-off-in-runoff-election\/\">either<\/a> Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar or\u00a0socialist challenger\u00a0Jessica Cisneros.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">Breitbart News previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/01\/trump-backed-monica-de-la-cruz-hernandez-wins-republican-nomination-in-texas-primary\/\">wrote<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Since 2016, there have been \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/midterm-election\/2022\/02\/28\/permanent-realignment-republicans-make-huge-gains-in-rio-grande-valley\/\">Republican uprisings<\/a>\u201d happening across the country, according to the <em>Washington Post.<\/em>\u00a0Everyday voters, especially Hispanic voters, have turned to the Republican party after becoming frustrated with one-party Democrat rule in Washington, DC. As the <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/01\/new-york-times-democrats-are-destroying-a-latino-culture\/\">wrote<\/a>, voters and candidates in South Texas claimed that \u201cDemocrats are destroying a Latino culture built around God, family, and patriotism\u201d and noted that Republican candidates have been building on the party\u2019s history of economic, religious, and cultural sentiment over the last decade.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">If any of the women win in November, it would be the first time a\u00a0Hispanic woman has held a congressional seat in South Texas and the first time a Republican holds a seat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">\u201cFor those of us looking for hopeful signs that 2020 was an isolated incident in terms of the drop-off in Latino support for Democrats, we just didn\u2019t get that hopeful sign in these primary results,\u201d said Tom Bonier, CEO of TargetSmart, a Democratic data firm, told <em>Politico<\/em>. \u201cThis is evidence that there\u2019s more of a challenge there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">A longtime Republican strategist, Leslie Sanchez, noted that the swing in Hispanic voting records is mostly due to\u00a0Hispanics leaving some urban areas that vote Democrat and have started to \u201cvote more like their neighbors in more conservative areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">The primary results show \u201cIt is not a one-off that was directly tied to Trump, but a larger movement of Hispanic voters,\u201d she told\u00a0<em>Politico.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><i>Jacob Bliss is a reporter for Breitbart News.
