Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has signaled he supports the bill and is likely to sign it. If he does, the new law would go into effect in July.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe governor supports pro-life legislation and is not responding to outcry from pro-abortion activists,\u201d DeSantis spokeswoman Christina Pushaw told The Daily Wire Thursday. \u201cThe bottom line is that they\u2019re demanding abortion after 15 weeks, which is when the fetus can already feel pain and is near viability; babies born as early as 20 weeks have survived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill permits exceptions when the mother\u2019s life is at risk or in danger of \u201cirreversible physical impairment,\u201d or if the unborn baby has a fetal abnormality, such as Down Syndrome. It does not offer exceptions for rape.<\/p>\n<p>Republican state Sen. Kelli Stargel, the bill\u2019s sponsor, argued that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/florida-senate-expected-pass-15-week-abortion-ban-2022-03-03\/?taid=6220a9139fa2ce00010f1bd6&#038;utm_campaign=trueAnthem:+Trending+Content&#038;utm_medium=trueAnthem&#038;utm_source=twitter\">it is false to say that<\/a> a \u201cchild should be killed because of the circumstances in which it was conceived.\u201d Stargel\u2019s stance appears to be shared by the governor\u2019s office: \u201cAn innocent baby should not pay the ultimate price for a crime they did not commit,\u201d Pushaw told The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>The bill has filled Florida\u2019s abortion supporters with anxiety as they await a decision in the Supreme Court case <em>Dobbs vs. Jackson<\/em> <em>Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/em>, a case involving a 2018 Mississippi law banning abortions after 15 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The case, which addresses whether bans on abortion before fetal viability are constitutional, may become the most pivotal abortion case in recent history, as it directly challenges the Supreme Court\u2019s monumental <em>Roe v. Eskamani \ud83d\udd28 (@AnnaForFlorida) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AnnaForFlorida\/status\/1499462502127738882?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On Wednesday, Democrats made Republicans spend 4 hours and 25 minutes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tallahassee.com\/story\/news\/local\/state\/2022\/03\/02\/proposed-ban-abortions-florida-15-weeks-closer-becoming-law-senate-desantis-vote-this-week\/6982166001\/\">listening<\/a>\u00a0to explanations of each of these amendments \u2014 several of which are related to men and paternity.<\/p>\n<p>Florida state Senator Tina Scott Polsky, a Democrat representing Palm Beach, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2022\/5\/Amendment\/733896\/PDF\">proposed an amendment<\/a> requiring fathers to begin paying child support \u201cfor an unborn child 15 beginning at the gestational age of 15 weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile this amendment may have been voted down, I think it was and is incredibly important,\u201d she told The Daily Wire in a Thursday statement. \u201cEvery state authorizes a custodial parent, the one who has the physical custody and daily care responsibilities, the right to child support, so arguably a pregnant woman should begin receiving payments at the 15-week mark.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bill ensures that a person carrying a fetus to term is financially supported by the person who caused insemination of the egg before and after the fetus comes out of the womb,\u201d she added. \u201cIf a person cannot get an abortion, their fetus and child should at least be supported financially.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Annette Taddeo, a Democratic state senator from Miami, introduced an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2022\/5\/Amendment\/885302\/PDF\">amendment<\/a>\u00a0that appears to be a response to legislation mandating that women undergo counseling before abortions, since it mandates that men receive counseling before vasectomies.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Annette_Taddeo?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Annette_Taddeo<\/a>&#8216;s amendment to the abortion ban <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/HB5?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#HB5<\/a> would require two doctors to sign off on a vasectomy. &#8220;We don&#8217;t have a two-doctor requirement on any other medical procedure. If we&#8217;re going to do it to women, let&#8217;s also require it for men.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Florida Planned Parenthood Action (@FAPPA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FAPPA\/status\/1499147487340335105?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 2, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cA physician may not perform a vasectomy procedure unless two physicians certify in writing that they have counseled the man seeking the vasectomy procedure on the fact that the procedure will prevent future life from being created,\u201d the amendment says.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic state Sen.
