More than a dozen Democratic and Republican lawmakers announced their support for the bill.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. imported more than 670,000 barrels of oil per day from Russia in 2021, U.S. Energy Information Administration data\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/dnav\/pet\/pet_move_neti_a_EP00_IMN_mbblpd_m.htm\">showed<\/a>. That figure represented a 24% year-over-year uptick compared to 2020. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/03\/nancy-pelosi-russian-oil-import-ban\/\">(RELATED: Nancy Pelosi Echoes Republicans\u2019 Calls For Russian Oil Import Ban)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe entire world is on edge as Vladimir Putin terrorizes the sovereign democratic nation of Ukraine,\u201d Manchin said in a statement on Thursday. \u201cThe U.S. cannot continue to purchase more than half a million barrels of oil per day because in doing so, we are emboldening Putin to continue using his greatest weapon of war \u2013 energy exports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ban Russian Energy Imports Act would declare a national emergency with respect to Russian aggression and immediately prohibit the importation of Russian energy products,\u201d he added. \u201cImportantly, this bipartisan bill shows our strong commitment to stand behind the valiant efforts of the Ukrainian people and the measures our allies in Europe are taking to rebuke Putin and his continued aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The West Virginia Democrat urged Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to quickly bring the legislation to the floor for a vote.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>In addition to the import ban, the legislation would declare a national emergency given the threat the invasion poses to \u201cnational security, foreign policy and the economy.\u201d President Joe Biden or Congress would be able to end the national emergency, and therefore the import ban, at any time.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation exempts products already in transit at the time it is signed into law. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/02\/joe-biden-energy-policies-crude-oil-natural-gas-russia\/\">(RELATED: ANALYSIS: How Biden\u2019s Energy Policies Enabled Putin\u2019s Aggression In Ukraine)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnergy exports are Putin\u2019s lifeline, which is exactly why we need to cut them off,\u201d Democratic Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s federal government relies upon its oil and gas industry to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfr.org\/in-brief\/russias-energy-role-europe-whats-stake-ukraine-crisis\">fund<\/a>\u00a040% of its annual budget.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Rob Portman, Democratic Sens. John Hickenlooper and Jon Tester, Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick and Democratic Rep.
