The <a href=\"https:\/\/tass.com\/politics\/1409329\">outbreak<\/a> of war between Russia and Ukraine on February 24 threatens to disrupt crucial wheat exports from these two neighbors to several nations that have grown heavily dependent on Ukrainian and Russian wheat in recent years.\u00a0 These countries include Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, Lebanon, Israel, and Turkey.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201c[A] protracted war in Ukraine can affect the harvest in that country, and therefore global supplies,\u201d Karabekir Akkoyunlu, a Middle Eastern studies lecturer at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, told Al Jazeera on March 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEgypt relies on Russia and Ukraine for 85 percent of its wheat imports, Tunisia relies on Ukraine for between 50 and 60 percent of its wheat imports,\u201d Monica Marks, a professor of Middle Eastern politics at New York University Abu Dhabi, told the Qatari news outlet on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough Turkey domestically produces about half of the wheat it consumes, it has become increasingly reliant on imports, 85 percent of which come from Russia and Ukraine,\u201d according to Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Statistics <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investmentmonitor.ai\/special-focus\/ukraine-crisis\/countries-exposed-ukrainian-food-exports\">published<\/a> by Investment Monitor on March 2 detailed Russian and Ukrainian wheat exports to Egypt, Yemen, and Lebanon over the past few years.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Many vulnerable countries, some of whom are already suffering from the consequences of wars or natural disasters, such as Yemen, rely on food exports from both Russia and Ukraine. <\/p>\n<p>Read: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rQIyialzQb\">https:\/\/t.co\/rQIyialzQb<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3CnT4pMt5h\">pic.twitter.com\/3CnT4pMt5h<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Investment Monitor (@InvestMonitorAI) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/InvestMonitorAI\/status\/1498936406395211778?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 2, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Egypt imported a total of\u00a0$3.02 billion worth of wheat in 2019, $1.44 billion of which came from Russia. Ukraine accounted for\u00a0 $773.4 million of Egyptian wheat imports for the same year.<\/p>\n<p>Yemen imported a total of $549.89 million worth of wheat in 2019.
