Henry Cuellar\u2019s\u00a0Texas 28th Congressional District from \u2018likely Democrat\u201d to \u201ctoss-up\u201d after neither he nor his challenger, socialist Jessica Cisneros, were able to seal the party\u2019s nomination with over 50 percent of the vote Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>As the Democrat party is now forced to use resources, much needed in other races, for the Democrat versus\u00a0socialist run-off, the candidate, whichever one it may be, will be in a much weaker position to run against the Republican nominee.\u00a0However, this is a rematch for\u00a0Cuellar, and in 2020, he narrowly defeated Cisneros in the primary.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The Center for Politics indicated that\u00a0 the reason for changing the district to a \u201ctoss-up\u201d is that Cuellar, who is a \u201cproven local commodity,\u201d also \u201chas a cloud hanging over his head\u201d since he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/21\/texas-democrat-henry-cuellar-continues-struggle-court-authorized-home-raid\/\">recently<\/a> had a\u00a0\u201ccourt-authorized\u201d\u00a0FBI raid of his house. He\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/25\/democrat-rep-cuellar-speaks-out-after-fbi-raids-his-home\/\">insisted<\/a>\u00a0that he did nothing wrong but is cooperating with investigation authorities.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>But,\u00a0Cisneros, who has seen\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/01\/several-dem-lawmakers-endorse-rep-cuellars-progressive-challenger-after-fbi-raid\/\">droves<\/a> of far-left Democrats lining up to back her, \u201cmay very well be too progressive for an ancestrally Democratic but not particularly liberal area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another major factor in the change was the \u201cRepublican trend among Latino voters that manifested itself in South Texas in 2020.\u201d Reportedly, while the Latino voters are leaning more Republicans than in the earlier years, the support for Biden was \u201cway down\u201d from the\u00a0nearly 20-point victories Hillary Clinton saw in 2016 and\u00a0Robert Francis \u201cBeto\u201d O\u2019Rourke saw in his 2018 Senate bid.<\/p>\n<p>Another point the\u00a0Center for Politics noted is that there is a possibility the May run-off would provide more time for information to arise from\u00a0Cuellar\u2019s recent\u00a0\u201ccourt-authorized\u201d\u00a0FBI raid clarifying if the congressman is in legal trouble.<\/p>\n<p><i>Jacob Bliss is a reporter for Breitbart News.
