Yet Biden has conspicuously failed to sanction Russia where it hurts,\u00a0<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-02-25\/white-house-vows-to-avoid-future-sanctions-on-russian-crude-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">refusing<\/a>\u00a0to halt U.S. imports of Russian oil. Biden can immediately deal a more significant blow to Russian finances by halting these unnecessary energy imports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need real sanctions, not just some problems for Putin\u2019s friends,\u201d\u00a0<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/6151493\/russia-oil-gas-embargo-sanctions-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a>\u00a0Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksiy Goncharenco last Thursday. \u201cWe need an embargo on Russian gas and oil because every barrel of Russian oil and every cubic meter of Russian gas is now full of the blood of Ukrainians.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>According to the latest\u00a0<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/dnav\/pet\/hist\/LeafHandler.ashx?n=pet&#038;s=mttim_nus-nrs_1&#038;f=a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">figures<\/a>\u00a0from the Energy Information Administration, the United States imports about 200,000 barrels of oil a day from Russia. With oil prices exceeding $100 a barrel, these imports amount to roughly\u00a0$20 million\u00a0each day that America sends to Putin and his war effort.<\/p>\n<p>And these crude oil imports don\u2019t count the additional few hundred thousand barrels per day of other petroleum products that the U.S. also imports from Russia.\u00a0When the value of these imports is included, the U.S. sends tens of millions of dollars more each day to Putin.<\/p>\n<p>Some countries, such as those in Europe, face a dilemma between energy and foreign policy. They often must make diplomatic compromises to secure energy for their people. For decades, U.S. international affairs were colored by our country\u2019s energy needs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>But the American fracking revolution has bypassed this challenging calculus. The U.S. doesn\u2019t need Russian oil because we produce enough domestically, gaining energy independence and becoming a net oil exporter during the Trump administration. No longer should our country compromise our values for oil imports.<\/p>\n<p>Canada has already taken this step to\u00a0<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-02-28\/trudeau-says-canada-to-ban-russian-crude-oil-imports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ban<\/a>\u00a0Russian oil imports in response to its Ukrainian invasion. The fact that Biden hasn\u2019t led the NATO effort in taking this step is his latest serious lapse in judgment.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s pro-Russian oil stance is all the more peculiar when you consider his opposition to domestic oil. Biden has taken many steps to restrict traditional energy domestically. For instance, he canceled the Keystone XL pipeline on his first day in office and banned drilling on federal land. He\u2019s thrown his support behind the radical Green New Deal that seeks to eliminate net carbon emissions by 2030 by severely curtailing traditional energy.<\/p>\n<p>This opposition to domestic oil threatens the American economy. No one believes Biden\u2019s ridiculous claims, repeated during the State of the Union, that green energy policies reduce energy prices and boost the economy. Biden should at least be honest with the American people and follow in the footsteps of his former boss, Barack Obama, who\u00a0<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2012\/04\/uttered-in-2008-still-haunting-obama-in-2012-074892\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">explained<\/a>\u00a0that with green energy policies, \u201celectricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Energy is a major input cost for small businesses and ordinary Americans. Its increasing price acts as another painful tax. When Americans have to pay $4 a gallon for gas and 50 percent more to heat their homes this winter, they have less money to spend on Main Street.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Biden\u2019s anti-American energy stance threatens to artificially reduce supply, exacerbate historic inflation, and drive the economy into stagnation. This week, the Atlanta Federal Reserve\u00a0<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.atlantafed.org\/cqer\/research\/gdpnow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cut<\/a>\u00a0its First Quarter GDP prediction to 0.0 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s continued war on fossil fuels has even reversed America\u2019s hard-won energy independence.
