The NRA <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/08\/06\/nra-announces-lawsuit-against-new-york-attorney-general\/\">counter-sued<\/a>, claiming James was retaliating against the group for its advocacy against gun control. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/08\/14\/nra-lawsuit-hollywood-producer-millions-dollars-yacht-wayne-lapierre-david-mckenzie\/\">(RELATED: NRA Lawsuit Alleges Hollywood Producer Received Millions Of Dollars, Lent Yacht To LaPierre)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe applaud the court\u2019s recognition that dissolution is neither appropriate nor justified,\u201d William A. Brewer III, partner at Brewer, Attorneys &#038; Counselors and counsel to the NRA said in a release sent to the Daily Caller News Foundation. \u201cWe look forward to continuing the defense of the NRA \u2013 and proving that it acts in the best interests of its members and the Second Amendment freedoms in which they believe.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">My opponent, Letitia James, has used her office to attack political opponents \u2014 and that will end on Nov. 8, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Today, a judge rejected her move to disband the NRA as a violation of the First Amendment. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LLYbUdzyrg\">https:\/\/t.co\/LLYbUdzyrg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Michael Henry (@michaelhenry4ag) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/michaelhenry4ag\/status\/1499128985594302466?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 2, 2022<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis is a resounding win for the NRA, its 5 million members, and all who believe in this organization,\u201d NRA President Charles Cotton said. \u201cThe message is loud and clear: the NRA is strong and secure in its mission to protect constitutional freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judge Cohen also dismissed claims of unjust enrichment and violations of the Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act, \u201cwhich seek essentially the same financial relief as other claims,\u201d according to the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>In a Wednesday <a href=\"https:\/\/ag.ny.gov\/press-release\/2022\/attorney-general-james-fends-nras-repeated-efforts-dismiss-fraud-lawsuit\">press release<\/a>, James said she was \u201cdisappointed that the judge ruled against the dissolution portion of the case,\u201d and that the attorney general\u2019s office was looking into \u201clegal options with respect to this ruling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During her 2018 campaign for attorney general, James had made a number of statements that showed hostility towards the NRA. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/08\/07\/letitia-james-nra-presidents-foundation\/\">(RELATED: New York Attorney General \u2018Intends To Do The Same\u2019 To NRA As She Did To President\u2019s Foundation)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NRA holds [itself] out as a charitable organization, but in fact, [it] really [is] a terrorist organization,\u201d she told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebony.com\/news\/letitia-tish-james-on-becoming-new-yorks-next-attorney-general\/\">Ebony<\/a> magazine in October 2018.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It took two years but NY AG Letitia James\u2019 effort to dissolve the NRA has failed. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/6pMPnR3322\">https:\/\/t.co\/6pMPnR3322<\/a> As discussed in my earlier column, the court was concerned over the impact on free speech.
