Roger Marshall (R-KS), to\u00a0block the Biden administration\u2019s vaccine mandate for most healthcare workers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday is a huge victory for all the healthcare workers who ran to the sound of the COVID battle, as Senate Republicans joined forces taking us one step closer to invalidating President Biden\u2019s overreaching and harmful CMS vaccine mandate,\u201d Marshall said in an exclusive statement to Breitbart News following the Senate roll call vote.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I thank my Senate colleagues for joining me in voting to END the CMS vaccine mandate. More than 30 GOP senators co-sponsored the resolution, which was introduced under the Congressional Review Act. The <a href=\"https:\/\/sgp.fas.org\/crs\/misc\/R43992.pdf\">Congressional Review Act<\/a>\u00a0 is \u201ca tool that Congress may use to overturn rules issued by federal agencies,\u201d and allowed the minority party to fast-track the vote.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">49-44: Senate votes to block Biden Administration&#8217;s vaccine mandate for most health care workers. White House opposes it. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xXwjh8zzCz\">pic.twitter.com\/xXwjh8zzCz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Craig Caplan (@CraigCaplan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CraigCaplan\/status\/1499120226125889536?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 2, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The Biden administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/11\/04\/fact-sheet-biden-administration-announces-details-of-two-major-vaccination-policies\/\">announced<\/a> both the OSHA mandate for large businesses and the CMS (Centers for Medicare &#038; Medicaid Services) mandate for healthcare workers in November of 2021.\u00a0The CMS mandate requires healthcare workers\u00a0at facilities participating in Medicare and Medicaid to be fully vaccinated. The rule applies to more than 17 million workers at approximately 76,000 healthcare facilities nationwide and includes hospitals and long-term care facilities.<\/p>\n<p>During his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?518298-1\/senate-session&#038;start=12614&#038;vod\">speech<\/a> on the Senate floor, Marshall cited data showing the broad-sweeping consequences of President Joe Biden\u2019s vaccine mandate for health care workers, pointing to a <a href=\"https:\/\/morningconsult.com\/2021\/10\/04\/health-care-workers-series-part-2-workforce\/\">poll<\/a> which shows that roughly one in five healthcare workers quit their jobs since February 2020. He also referred to the\u00a0American Nursing Association\u2019s request to\u00a0HHS Secretary Becerra urging the agency to declare the nursing shortage a national crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNearly a third of the country\u2019s 15,000 nursing homes reported a shortage of nurses or aides. Hospitals have been forced to recruit foreign nurses and National Guardsmen have had to fill in as nursing assistants to eases these problems. These shortages are particularly impactful in rural areas like much of my home state of Kansas,\u201d said the senator, who notably has more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.senate.gov\/about\/\">25 years of experience<\/a> as a medical doctor.<\/p>\n<p>He continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The Centers for Medicare &#038; Medicaid Services acknowledges that there are currently \u201cendemic staff shortages for all categories of employees at almost all kinds of healthcare providers and suppliers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite this acknowledgment, President Biden and his public health officials went forward with this vaccine mandate knowing it could lead to firings.<\/p>\n<p>Firings like those we saw in New York when 33,000 health care workers were fired, retired, or place on unpaid leave because they chose not to abide by the state\u2019s mandatory inoculation policy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Marshall added that, as a physician, he is \u201cconfident the vaccine has saved lives,\u201d but he believes mandating vaccination is unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p>While the Biden administration\u2019s OSHA mandate was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/health\/2022\/01\/13\/supreme-court-rejects-bidens-osha-vaccine-mandate-on-private-employers-upholds-cms-mandate\/\">blocked<\/a> in the Supreme Court in an expedited mid-January hearing, the nation\u2019s highest court allowed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/20\/federal-court-decision-subjects-half-of-u-s-healthcare-workers-to-bidens-vaccine-mandate\/\">CMS mandate<\/a> to stand for the time being.<\/p>\n<p>GOP Senators led and passed a <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/585005-senate-votes-to-nix-bidens-vaccine-mandate-for-businesses\">similar resolution<\/a> 52-48 earlier this month against Biden\u2019s OSHA mandate, in which Democrat Sens. Jon Tester (D-MT) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) voted with Republicans, <em>The Hill<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/healthcare\/587730-senate-gop-introduces-resolution-to-nix-biden-health-worker-vaccine-mandate\">reported<\/a>. According to the publication, the White House has warned that it would veto both measures if the resolutions pass the House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMake no mistake, this federal vaccine mandate is not about public health or science \u2013 it\u2019s about Joe Biden fulfilling his desire to control every aspect of our lives, and it\u2019s a slap in the face to the hard-working men and women who never took a day off in the frontline fight against COVID-19,\u201d Marshall continued in his statement to Breitbart News. \u201cThese workers are the true heroes of the pandemic and deserve our best fight and utmost respect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Katherine Hamilton is a political reporter for Breitbart News.
