Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) after he <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Texas%27_15th_Congressional_District\">barely<\/a> won in 2020, when he only secured 50.5 percent of the vote to the Republican\u2019s 47.6 percent \u2014 about a 6,000 vote difference.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Gonzalez\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/midterm-election\/2021\/10\/26\/democrat-vicente-gonzalez-congressional-district\/\">announced<\/a> last October his decision to ditch the congressional seat and to abandon the constituents he currently represents \u2014 where De La Cruz just won the Republican nomination, and what would have been a more competitive race \u2014 to run in what he thought would have been a safer Democrat seat, Texas\u2019s 34th Congressional District, in order to have a higher chance of winning. However, earlier this year, the University of Virginia\u2019s Center for Politics <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/27\/analysis-two-texas-democrat-congressional-districts-become-more-vulnerable\/\">moved<\/a> the new seat Gonzalez is running in from a \u201cSafe Democratic\u201d district to a \u201cLikely Democratic\u201d district.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>As the final exit results are still being counted, part of the reason the seat has become \u201cmore competitive,\u201d and partly what helped De La Cruz is the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/midterm-election\/2022\/02\/28\/permanent-realignment-republicans-make-huge-gains-in-rio-grande-valley\/\">permanent realignment<\/a>\u201d in South Texas with the Hispanic voter base.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2016, there have been \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/midterm-election\/2022\/02\/28\/permanent-realignment-republicans-make-huge-gains-in-rio-grande-valley\/\">Republican uprisings<\/a>\u201d happening across the country, according to the <em>Washington Post.<\/em>\u00a0Everyday voters, especially Hispanic voters, have turned to the Republican party after becoming frustrated with one-party Democrat rule in Washington, DC. As the <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/01\/new-york-times-democrats-are-destroying-a-latino-culture\/\">wrote<\/a>, voters and candidates in South Texas claimed that \u201cDemocrats are destroying a Latino culture built around God, family, and patriotism\u201d and noted that Republican candidates have been building on the party\u2019s history of economic, religious, and cultural sentiment over the last decade.<\/p>\n<p>De La Cruz, again looking to be the first Republican to represent the district in its 120 years of existence, told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/midterm-election\/2021\/10\/30\/exclusive-monica-de-la-cruz-hernandez-i-will-give-south-texas-hispanics-proper-representation-in-congress\/\">Breitbart News Saturday<\/a><\/em> last year, \u201cThere is an awakening happening in South Texas among the Hispanic culture\u201d after the Democrats have shown how far towards socialism they\u2019ve moved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re awakening to see my values of faith, family, and freedom, no longer aligned with the Democrat Party,\u201d De La Cruz. \u201cI think what President Trump did is he shook up the establishment. He shook up the people to say, \u2018pay attention to what is happening.\u2019 \u2026 that\u2019s what Hispanics are doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republican organizations that helped De La Cruz-Hernandez in the primary rejoiced over having her clinch the nomination.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), the\u00a0House Republican-aligned\u00a0campaign arm, said he he can\u2019t wait to see\u00a0De La Cruz defeat the Democrat she will face in November.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations\u00a0to Monica De La Cruz on her primary victory.\u00a0In 2020, Monica showed that Republicans can compete in South Texas and this cycle, she\u2019s going to finish the job,\u201d stated NRCC Chairman Tom Emmer. \u201cI look forward to Monica defeating the Democrat nominee and helping Republicans retake the House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dAdditionally, the president of the\u00a0Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), another House Republican-aligned group, that spent\u00a0nearly $185,000 supporting the Republican added that the Republican would be a \u201cprime\u00a0pickup opportunity\u201d for the party in the November election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMonica De La\u00a0Cruz\u2019s life is a testament to what is possible in the American Dream,\u201d said CLF President Dan Conston. \u201cMonica\u2019s victory ensures this district will\u00a0be\u00a0a\u00a0prime\u00a0pickup opportunity for Republicans in the fall.\u00a0I congratulate her on\u00a0her impressive win and am confident she will flip this seat red in November.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The general election is on November 8.<\/p>\n<p><em>Jacob Bliss is a reporter for Breitbart News.
