From Frankfurt, the supplies will travel to Ukraine through \u201cappropriate routes and channels,\u201d according to the ministry.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/StandWithUkraine?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#StandWithUkraine<\/a>\ud83c\uddfa by sending 27 tons of medical supplies. The social media post <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MOFA_Taiwan\/status\/1498453937653161986?cxt=HHwWhIDRodn6ycspAAAA\">read<\/a>:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We #StandWithUkraine by sending 27 tons of medical supplies. While #China sides with #Russia in an \u201cunlimited alliance,\u201d #Taiwan is with freedom &#038; democracy fighting the expansion of authoritarianism. I have faith: Democracy will prevail! JW<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The message was signed \u201cJW,\u201d which the account uses to signal a tweet was written by Jaushieh Joseph Wu, Taiwan\u2019s minister of foreign affairs.<\/p>\n<p>While Wu\u2019s Twitter post on Monday referred to the shipment in \u201ctons,\u201d Reuters referred to the same supplies in \u201ctonnes\u201d on Tuesday. A \u201ctonne,\u201d also known as a \u201cmetric ton,\u201d is a metric unit of mass equal to 1,000 kilograms or about 2,204.6 pounds. A \u201cton,\u201d as referred to in the U.S., is an imperial unit of measurement equaling 2,000 pounds.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s military <a href=\"https:\/\/tass.com\/politics\/1409329\">launched<\/a> an air and ground offensive in neighboring Ukraine on the morning of February 24. The development followed 72 hours after Moscow <a href=\"https:\/\/tass.com\/politics\/1407581\">declared<\/a> its intention to formally recognize two Russian-backed breakaway states in eastern Ukraine\u2019s Donbass territory known as the Donetsk People\u2019s Republic (DPR) and the Luhansk People\u2019s Republic (LPR).<\/p>\n<p>The World Health Organization (W.H.O.) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news\/item\/27-02-2022-dangerously-low-medical-oxygen-supplies-in-ukraine-due-to-crisis-warn-who-director-general-and-who-regional-director-for-europe\">issued<\/a> a press release on February 27 stating Ukraine was suffering from a medical oxygen shortage amid its ongoing military conflict with Russia. The statement read:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The oxygen supply situation is nearing a very dangerous point in Ukraine. Trucks are unable to transport oxygen supplies from plants to hospitals across the country, including the capital Kyiv. The majority of hospitals could exhaust their oxygen reserves within the next 24 hours. Some have already run out. This puts thousands of lives at risk.<\/p>\n<p>Further, medical oxygen generator manufacturers in several areas are also facing shortages of zeolite, a crucial, mainly imported chemical product necessary to produce safe medical oxygen. Safe deliveries of zeolite from outside Ukraine to these plants is also needed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The W.H.O. is the international public health body of the United Nations (U.N.). The U.N. Security Council on February 26 attempted to pass a resolution that would have demanded Moscow immediately withdraw all troops from Ukraine. Russia, which is a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council, vetoed the resolution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile 11 of the Council\u2019s 15 members voted in favour of the text, China India, and the United Arab Emirates abstained,\u201d the U.N. wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/en\/story\/2022\/02\/1112802\">press release<\/a> detailing the resolution\u2019s failure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA \u2018no\u2019 vote from any one of the five permanent members of the Council stops action on any measure put before it.
