We do not allow activities that may undermine the integrity of our platform or the authenticity of our users. We remove content or accounts that involve spam or fake engagement, impersonation, or misleading information that causes significant harm.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Under a \u201cHarmful misinformation,\u201d TikTok\u2019s guidelines continue.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><i><span>Misinformation is defined as content that is inaccurate or false. We will remove misinformation that causes significant harm to individuals, our community, or the larger public regardless of intent. Significant harm includes serious physical injury, illness, or death; severe psychological trauma; large-scale property damage, and the undermining of public trust in civic institutions and processes such as governments, elections, and scientific bodies. This does not include simply inaccurate information, myths, or commercial or reputational harm.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>TikTok\u2019s current guidelines, in place until March 7, make no mention of governments or scientific institutions. However, it does instruct users not to post \u201c<\/span><span>Content that misleads community members about elections or other civic processes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This is not the first controversial news regarding TikTok\u2019s usage guidance. Last year, <\/span><span>TikTok released their new privacy policy informing users that the app may collect new forms of biometric data, such as \u201cfaceprints and voiceprints,\u201d but the company was reportedly \u201cunable to explain what types of data these terms referred to, or why the app might need to access this information in the first place.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c<\/span><span>A change to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/legal\/privacy-policy?lang=en#privacy-us\"><span>TikTok\u2019s U.S. privacy policy<\/span><\/a><span> on Wednesday introduced a new section that says the social video app \u2018may collect biometric identifiers and biometric information\u2019 from its users\u2019 content,\u201d reported <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/06\/03\/tiktok-just-gave-itself-permission-to-collect-biometric-data-on-u-s-users-including-faceprints-and-voiceprints\/?guccounter=1&#038;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cudGhldmVyZ2UuY29tLw&#038;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAANAjB_afsssFR4APN9O4Vawrfs22EWTL2kdWa1YmoVTO_Ksab2ulVKARysujLdD_8L4sk8Svz-ioJT6YywnotB9WEKO6xhBYsM-OQ7hCU_Uv7QXQkzEH85IiUFkdJJH0-01OUwyYMYFoY9bAMRb9VneRf_mOVzKpf1BCLbWq6BUk\"><span>TechCrunch<\/span><\/a><span> at the time. \u201cThis includes things like \u2018faceprints and voiceprints,\u2019 the policy explained.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>TechCrunch then explained that after being reached for comment on the forms of data that may be collected, \u201cTikTok could not confirm what product developments necessitated the addition of biometric data to its list of disclosures about the information it automatically collects from users, but said it would ask for consent in the case such data collection practices began.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As TechCrunch noted, issues such as consent and methods of storage become notably important because \u201conly a handful of U.S. states have biometric privacy laws, including Illinois, Washington, California, Texas and New York.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIf TikTok only requested consent, \u2018where required by law,\u2019 it could mean users in other states would not have to be informed about the data collection,\u201d added TechCrunch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Ian Haworth is a writer for The Daily Wire and contributor to Morning Wire.
