Thompson (D-MS) today announced that, as part of its investigation into the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol and its causes, the Select Committee has issued subpoenas to six individuals who promoted false claims that the 2020 presidential election was fraudulent and participated in, or encouraged, various actions based on those false claims. The committee is seeking records and testimony from these six individuals.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman Thompson issued the following statement:<\/p>\n<p><b>\u201cThe Select Committee is seeking information about attempts to disrupt or delay the certification of electoral votes and any efforts to corruptly change the outcome of the 2020 election. The six individuals we\u2019ve subpoenaed today all have knowledge related to those matters and will help the Select Committee better understand all the various strategies employed to potentially affect the outcome of the election. We expect these witnesses to join the hundreds who have cooperated with the Select Committee as we work to provide the American people with answers about the violence of January 6th and its causes.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Select Committee issued subpoenas for records and deposition testimony to the following individuals:<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/sites\/democrats.january6th.house.gov\/files\/2022-3-1.BGT%20Letter%20to%20Mitchell%20-%20Cover%20Letter%20and%20Schedule_Redacted.pdf\">Cleta Mitchell<\/a><\/b>\u00a0participated in efforts to prevent, delay, or overturn election results; promoted false claims of election fraud to Members of Congress; and participated in a call in which former President Trump pressured the Georgia Secretary of State to \u201cfind\u201d enough votes to reverse his loss there. Ms. Mitchell was in contact with then-President Trump on January 6th and the days prior.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/sites\/democrats.january6th.house.gov\/files\/2022-3-1.BGT%20Letter%20to%20Chesebro%20-%20Cover%20Letter%20and%20Schedule_Redacted.pdf\">Kenneth Chesebro<\/a><\/b>\u00a0actively promoted legal theories within the Trump campaign supporting the use of slates of bogus electors in states the former President lost.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/sites\/democrats.january6th.house.gov\/files\/2022-3-1.BGT%20Letter%20to%20Bobb%20-%20Cover%20Letter%20and%20Schedule_Redacted.pdf\">Christina Bobb<\/a><\/b>\u00a0was reportedly involved in efforts to draft an executive order for then-President Trump that would have directed federal agencies to seize voting machines in numerous states and was present in the \u201cwar room\u201d of Rudy Giuliani\u2019s legal team in the Willard Hotel on January 6th.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/sites\/democrats.january6th.house.gov\/files\/2022-3-1.BGT%20Letter%20to%20Friess%20-%20Cover%20Letter%20and%20Schedule_Redacted.pdf\">Katherine Friess<\/a><\/b>\u00a0was reportedly involved in efforts to draft an executive order for then-President Trump that would have directed federal agencies to seize voting machines and at one point traveled to Michigan in an attempt to obtain voting machine data directly from local officials.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/sites\/democrats.january6th.house.gov\/files\/2022-3-1.BGT%20Letter%20to%20Olsen%20-%20Cover%20Letter%20and%20Schedule_Redacted.pdf\">Kurt Olsen<\/a><\/b>\u00a0reportedly prepared a draft executive order for then-President Trump that would have directed the Department of Justice to \u201ctake voter action,\u201d and had multiple phone calls with the then-President on January 6th.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/sites\/democrats.january6th.house.gov\/files\/2022-3-1.BGT%20Letter%20to%20Kline%20-%20Cover%20Letter%20and%20Schedule_Redacted.pdf\">Phillip Kline<\/a>\u00a0<\/b>convened a meeting between then-President Trump and more than 300 state legislators in an attempt to disseminate purported evidence of election fraud and encourage legislators to sign a letter urging Vice President Mike Pence to delay the electoral certification on January 6th.<\/p>\n<p>The letters to the witnesses can be found here:<\/p>\n<p> Facebook Comments<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Select Committee Demands Information From Witnesses Who Promoted Unsupported Claims Of Election Fraud \/ News Release: Washington\u2014Chairman Bennie G.
