The content of the video is not real.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A large Russian military convoy is threatening Ukraine\u2019s capital city of Kyiv as the invasion enters its sixth day, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-war-what-to-know-1c7a5fc5e9cf84134592c855c363e791\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Associated Press<\/a>. Approximately 136 civilians have been killed since the start of the war, including 13 children, as shelling in the country intensified, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2022\/03\/01\/world\/ukraine-russia-war?name=styln-russia-ukraine&#038;region=hub&#038;block=storyline_live_updates_block_recirc&#038;action=click&#038;pgtype=LegacyCollection#heres-the-latest-on-the-war-in-ukraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>The video, which has been viewed over 14,000 times, shows two jets flying in the sky above before one is hit by a projectile. The caption of the post claims the video is \u201ccrazy footage of a Ukrainian Air Force MiG-29 shooting down an enemy Su-35 fighter jet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The video does not show genuine footage of a dogfight between Ukrainian and Russian fighter jets. A reverse image search revealed the video is from a game called Digital Combat Simulator, a \u201csandbox\u201d military simulation game, according to its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalcombatsimulator.com\/en\/products\/world\/#:~:text=Digital%20Combat%20Simulator%20World%20(DCS,ground%20vehicles%20and%20ships%20possible.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>. The video first appeared on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SBBJ_JzV8u4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouTube<\/a>\u00a0with the title, \u201cGHOST OF KIEV | dogfight between Ukrainian MiG29 and Russian Su27 simulated in DCS World.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis footage is from DCS, but is nevertheless made out of respect for \u2018The Ghost of Kiev.\u2019 If he is real, may God be with him; if he is fake, I pray for more like \u2018him,&#8217;\u201d reads the description of the YouTube video. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/02\/24\/fact-check-russian-airplane-struck-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Video Show A Russian Fighter Jet Being Shot Down In Ukraine?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Eagle Dynamics, Matthias Techmanski, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/factcheck-animation-ukrainianjet\/fact-check-animation-miscaptioned-as-if-to-show-video-of-ukrainian-fighter-jet-shooting-down-russian-plane-idUSL1N2V035G?fbclid=IwAR0L9Mv_VSUi0Q0n4142HSxmrF9t4U-d-enD4bjgx7lLBDF2S-xUQU-IaNo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters<\/a> that the video was from DCS and that they \u201care not responsible for its distribution, nor do [they] endorse such content.\u201d The \u201cGhost of Kyiv\u201d is alleged to be a Ukrainian fighter pilot who has reportedly shot down several Russian jets, though this is likely untrue, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/taskandpurpose.com\/analysis\/ghost-kyiv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Task &#038; Purpose<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Check Your Fact has <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/02\/25\/fact-check-russia-ukraine-air-defense-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">debunked<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/02\/28\/fact-check-ukraine-russia-battle-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">several<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/02\/24\/fact-check-russian-jet-shot-down-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">videos<\/a> claiming to show combat between Russia and Ukraine, including footage that allegedly shows ground troops fighting in Ukraine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A video\u00a0shared on Facebook purportedly shows a Ukrainian fighter pilot shooting down a Russian jet.Verdict: False The footage stems from a video game.
