The design of the license plate contains the words \u201cDon\u2019t Tread on Me\u201d along with the distinctive snake from the Gadsden flag.<\/p>\n<p>For the personalized portion of the license plate, Kirk chose the letters \u201cLGBF JB.\u201d Many people deduced these letters were meant to stand for the anti-Biden phrases \u201cLet\u2019s go, Brandon\u201d and \u201cF*** Joe Biden,\u201d a conclusion seemingly supported by the \u201cLet\u2019s Go Brandon\u201d license plate frame Kirk put around it.<\/p>\n<p>Personalized license plates in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/scotus-delivers-bad-news-isis-bride-left-alabama-join-jihad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alabama<\/a> are supposed to take two to six weeks to arrive, the Tribune reported. However, this period passed and Kirk\u2019s temporary paper license expired before he was issued the new plate. The truck with the license plate on it was registered in her name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Alabama Department of Revenue, Motor Vehicle Division, has determined the above referenced license plate contains objectionable language which is considered by the Department to be offensive to the peace and dignity of the State of Alabama,\u201d the letter said, according to the report.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">So many sensitive folks\u2026 it\u2019s literally a string of letters, leave it alone<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jason helmich (@jason_helmich) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jason_helmich\/status\/1498385397499539461?\">February 28, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The letter said Kirk had 10 days to return the license plate before his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/woman-allegedly-drunk-uses-interesting-getaway-vehicle-flee-cop-chasing-airport-terminal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vehicle<\/a> registration would be revoked, and it was dated Feb. 17. If he drove the vehicle without a valid registration, he would be issued a $500 fine for the first offense and a $1,000 fine for each additional offense.<\/p>\n<p>Kirk said he was surprised to receive the letter in February.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been on the road for a month, and it was approved a long time ago; it was approved immediately when I bought it,\u201d he told the Tribune. \u201cThey didn\u2019t have any issue taking the six or seven hundred dollars it cost from me.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Personalized tag in Oneonta recalled for \u2018objective language\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WNDMLeemtK\">https:\/\/t.co\/WNDMLeemtK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Trussville Tribune (@TrussTribune) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TrussTribune\/status\/1497340378147700745?\">February 25, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"in-article-related\" class=\"in-article-more inner-content\">\n<p>Related:<\/p>\n<div class=\"in-article-more-right\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/facebook-cancels-gop-governor-posts-withering-criticism-bidens-vaccine-mandate\/\" data-type=\"Internal link\" data-type-location=\"in-content-related\">Facebook Cancels GOP Governor After She Posts Withering Criticism of Biden&#8217;s Vaccine Mandate<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Kirk guessed that during the period between his original order and this letter, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/california-students-will-no-longer-encouraged-chant-aztec-prayer-state-officials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state official<\/a> caught wind of the license plate and decided to suppress it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing about it is right,\u201d he said, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/02\/28\/alabama-recalls-mans-lets-go-brandon-license-plate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>. \u201cSomeone at Montgomery, I\u2019m assuming, doesn\u2019t like it and now they\u2019re throwing a fit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While it could be reasonably concluded that Kirk meant to invoke the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-hits-new-low-poll-congressional-democrats-get-harbinger-midterm-bloodbath\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anti-Biden<\/a> phrases, he pointed out that the license plate does not contain any vulgar language. Furthermore, he noted, there is no way to prove that his intention with these six letters was vulgar criticism of the president.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\" class=\"one-half\">\n<p>Should Kirk be allowed to keep this license plate?<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-results\">\n<p>\nYes: 99% (2161 Votes)\n<\/p>\n<p>\nNo: 1% (17 Votes)\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s 100 percent suppression of First Amendment rights,\u201d Kirk told the Tribune. \u201cIt could stand for anything; I just kind of like those letters. I could get the letters FFFFFF, and it could stand for anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alabama Department of Revenue <a href=\"https:\/\/revenue.alabama.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/810-5-1-.234.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">regulations<\/a> prohibit license plates with \u201cobjectionable language or symbols which are considered by the Department to be offensive to the peace and dignity of the State of Alabama.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the regulations are supposed to be enforced before the plates are \u201cmanufactured and issued,\u201d not a month after the plate is sent to a customer.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Kirk said, the letters do not spell vulgar words or inherently stand for offensive language. Only an individual interpretation of the letters would lead someone to think of vulgar language.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy point is, it\u2019s letters,\u201d he said, according to the Post. \u201cIt could be my kid\u2019s initials. It could be my grandmother or grandfather. It\u2019s just letters. It doesn\u2019t spell anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Department of Revenue rules say a resident may appeal a revocation or denial of a personalized plate with the Alabama Tax Tribunal.
