Meanwhile, try looking for any coverage of \u201cphantom looting\u201d being experienced by those who lived through the George Floyd riots.<\/p>\n<p>(Here at The Western Journal, we\u2019ve been cataloguing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/flashback-years-gofundme-ripped-9-million-peaceful-truckers-actively-promoted-violent-takeover-seattle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the double standard<\/a> in the media\u2019s reporting on protests depending on what point they\u2019re making \u2014 and we\u2019ll continue doing it. I\u2019ve got three cats, two dogs. So yeah, it was torture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kevin was not alone, according to the BBC report, which noted that the trucks had been removed the week before but\u00a0\u201csome downtown residents say they\u2019re haunted by \u2018phantom honking\u2019 \u2014 what sounds like blaring truck horns, but no actual sounds are there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you hear that noise, it\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, are they back? Is there a road convoy coming back, right?&#8217;\u201d a man identified as Sean Flynn told the CBC.<\/p>\n<p>Flynn doesn\u2019t live in downtown <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/canadian-officials-launch-investigation-chilling-messages-ottawa-police-crackdown-surface\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ottawa<\/a>, but a whopping\u00a0<em>three kilometers<\/em> away from where the honking was going on. (That\u2019s 1.86 miles in freedom units.) You\u2019re not actually hearing honking,\u201d Virani said, telling the CBC he\u2019s been experiencing \u201cconstant on-edgeness\u201d and \u201cfear\u201d when he steps outside, post-protests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not good for anyone to feel that way,\u201d Virani said.<\/p>\n<p>Note that Virani was never in any physical danger \u2014 unlike, say, the elderly female protester with a walker who was seen in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/graphic-trudeaus-forces-turn-violent-crush-elderly-woman-walker-appear-trample-crowd-beat-others\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">widely shared video<\/a> being knocked down by mounted police during the crackdown.<\/p>\n<p>However, an Ottawa-based clinical psychologist still said people like Kevin, Flynn and Virani are experiencing a type of \u201cmild trauma.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese sounds become sort of embedded in mind, kind of like the way trauma leads to flashbacks,\u201d Dr. Peter Liu told the CBC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven long after this has happened, the brain is still in a hyper-vigilant state and expects more honking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Liu said it was \u201ctemporary and it will always fade with time,\u201d although the CBC noted that \u201c[i]f the problem continues, he said people shouldn\u2019t hesitate to reach out to a doctor or mental health professional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s easy to groan and say that those experiencing \u201cconstant on-edgeness\u201d or \u201cre-traumatizing\u201d because of this so-called \u201cphantom honking\u201d phenomenon need to get over themselves. And while they probably should, let\u2019s not forget the only reason they were in \u201ca hyper-vigilant state\u201d was because the country\u2019s pro-government media and Canadian politicians whipped them up into a frenzy.<\/p>\n<p>The CBC and other outlets portrayed the Freedom Convoy protests \u2014 originally over a vaccine mandate for truckers but which came to encompass a general dissatisfaction with Canada\u2019s COVID-19 restrictions \u2014 as a grave existential threat.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau did, too \u2014 so much so that he invoked the country\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/shapiro-trudeau-wields-terrifying-new-power-convoy-donors-need-alert\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Emergencies Act<\/a>, greatly expanding government powers to deal with the protesters.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\" class=\"one-half\">\n<p>Are Canadian media to blame for the hysteria that surrounded the Freedom Convoy?<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-results\">\n<p>\nYes: 0% (0 Votes)\n<\/p>\n<p>\nNo: 0% (0 Votes)\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Money and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/canada-makes-move-govt-forces-attack-liberty-camper-drag-away-arrest-owner-inside\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vehicles were seized<\/a>. Peaceful demonstrators were jailed. But it was always the <em>truckers<\/em> who were the threat. And \u2014\u00a0<em>gasp!<\/em> \u2014 they used their\u00a0<em>horns<\/em> in protest of Canada\u2019s COVID mandates and policies.<\/p>\n<p>Now, after helping whip people like Kevin, Flynn and Virani into a frothing frenzy, the CBC returns to document their experiences with \u201cphantom honking\u201d \u2014 and imply that it was the truckers who are at fault.<\/p>\n<p>As the CBC noted, some Ottawa residents are currently involved in a class-action lawsuit against the protest organizers.
