Wade<\/span><\/i><span>, overturning many pro-life laws passed at the state level.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/3755\/text?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22Womens+Health+Protection+Act%22%5D%7D&#038;r=1&#038;s=1\"><span>Women\u2019s Health Protection Act<\/span><\/a><span> \u2014 sponsored by Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) \u2014 invoked Congress\u2019 right to regulate interstate commerce and argued that \u201cit is difficult and time and resource-consuming for clinics to challenge State laws that burden or impede abortion services.\u201d The bill would have barred state-level regulations such as ultrasound requirements, waiting periods, and certain gestational age restrictions, including the Texas Heartbeat Act.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>With a 46 to 48 margin in the Senate, the legislation failed to reach the necessary 60 votes to invoke cloture and proceed to a vote. Six lawmakers did not vote, while Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) opposed the bill alongside his Republican colleagues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Following the vote, Democrats mourned their failure to pass the legislation, which has already been passed by the House of Representatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cRoe v. Wade is hanging on by an ever-thinning thread, which is why I just voted to move forward with the Women\u2019s Health Protection Act \u2014 a bill that would protect access to abortion,\u201d Sen.
