Here\u2019s everything you need to know.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Ukraine government asks for help<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>On Saturday February 26, Mykhailo Fedorov, the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, sent out a tweet asking the tech billionaire for assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c[Elon Musk], while you try to colonize Mars \u2014 Russia try to occupy Ukraine!\u201d Fedorov tweeted. \u201cWhile your rockets successfully land from space \u2014 Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people! Your stance and your actions matter.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Elon Musk responds<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>In a tweet that quickly went viral, Musk responded to Federov\u2019s request.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cStarlink service is now active in Ukraine. Thank you [Elon Musk], thank you everyone, who supported Ukraine!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What is Starlink?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Starlink is operated by Musk\u2019s SpaceX, and is working to launch and operate a collection of satellites to provide internet access across the globe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cStarlink provides high-speed, low-latency broadband internet across the globe. Within each coverage area, orders are fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis,\u201d the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.starlink.com\/\"><span>company<\/span><\/a><span> says. \u201cUsing advanced satellites in a low orbit, Starlink enables video calls, online gaming, streaming, and other high data rate activities that historically have not been possible with satellite internet.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cStarlink is ideally suited for areas where connectivity has been unreliable or completely unavailable,\u201d the company added. \u201cPeople across the globe are using Starlink to gain access to education, health services and even communications support during natural disasters.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Will it help?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>While Musk\u2019s response was widely celebrated, it still remains somewhat unclear what the active Starlink service means for the under-fire country of Ukraine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/02\/27\/business\/starlink-activated-ukraine\/index.html\"><span>senior U.S. defense official<\/span><\/a><span>, while there have been \u201cintermittent\u201d power outages in Ukraine, the internet is still \u201cgenerally available.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Some even went as far as criticizing the announcement as a \u201cmarketing\u201d ploy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cGuys, use some critical thinking before you praise this,\u201d tweeted Rebellion PAC executive director, Brianna Wu. \u201cA. The Starlink service would also require the distribution of \u201cterminals,\u201d which would be difficult to deliver given the ongoing invasion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, according to other reports, internet unreliability is a real concern for many in the country, especially for those who rely on the internet for communication and resistance efforts. The incident comes amid fighting around capital city <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Kyiv?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Kyiv<\/a>. Do you want to threaten them with such a prospect?
