This, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220227180844\/https:\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2022\/02\/27\/bp-russia-rosneft-ukraine\/\">according<\/a> to the far-left <em>Washington Post<\/em>, is \u201cone of the most significant Western investments in Russia ever[.]\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRussia\u2019s attack on Ukraine is an act of aggression which is having tragic consequences across the region,\u201d the head of BP said in a statement. \u201cBP has operated in Russia for over 30 years, working with brilliant Russian colleagues.\u00a0 However, this military action represents a fundamental change.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt has led the BP board to conclude, after a thorough process, that our involvement with Rosneft, a state-owned enterprise, simply cannot continue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The BP move is one more sign that Western public opinion is swiftly moving against Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s unjustified invasion of Ukraine, a sovereign nation that gave up its nukes in 1994 in exchange for the Russian government\u2019s security guarantee.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_20046922\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2022\/02\/GettyImages-164226892.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-20046922\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/GettyImages-164226892-1024x660-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"990\" height=\"638\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Bob Dudley, chief executive of British energy giant BP (2nd L) , looks on as Russia\u2019s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin (C) shaking hands during a meeting in Putin\u2019s Novo-Ogaryovo residence outside Moscow, on March 21, 2013, with Russia\u2019s state oil giant Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin (R) attending. (MIKHAIL KLIMENTYEV\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In ways <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/24\/e-u-responds-to-russias-ukraine-aggression-harshest-package-of-sanctions-are-coming\/\">large<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/26\/politicians-take-action-to-remove-russian-vodka-spirits-from-stores-in-u-s-canada\/\">small<\/a>, from consumers to companies to governments, the West is growing more determined by the day to take a bite out of Russia\u2019s economic might and military aggression with a mixture of sanctions, \u00a0boycotts, and the denial of airspace.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>More from <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220227180844\/https:\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2022\/02\/27\/bp-russia-rosneft-ukraine\/\">the <em>Post<\/em>:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The world\u2019s biggest computer-chip companies\u00a0have started halting sales to Russia\u00a0of vital electronic components, to comply with U.S.-led sanctions. And the European Union is banning Russian flights from its airspace, forcing Russian airline Aeroflot to cancel many flights.<\/p>\n<p>Hours after BP\u2019s announcement, Norway\u2019s state-controlled oil company said it, too, was quitting its investments in Russia \u2014 a group of joint ventures it valued at $1.2 billion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are all deeply troubled by the invasion of Ukraine, which represents a terrible setback for the world,\u201d Anders Opedal, president and chief executive of Equinor,\u00a0said in a statement. \u201cIn the current situation, we regard our position as untenable,\u201d he added, saying that the company will begin \u201cexiting our joint ventures in a manner that is consistent with our values.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Good heavens, even the notoriously neutral Swiss have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/live-updates-un-to-hold-2-meetings-on-russia-ukraine-war\/\">announced<\/a> sanctions against Russia, which means, and probably for the first time in history, \u00a0no more Swiss bank accounts for Russian gangsters, including Putin and his top lieutenants.<\/p>\n<p>Undoubtedly, much of this reactions has been driven by the surprising <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/putin-puts-nuclear-forces-on-high-alert-escalating-worries\/\">resistance<\/a> Ukraine appears to be putting up against Putin\u2019s army. The Ukrainians, most especially Ukraine\u2019s President Volodymyr Zelensky, are also winning the public relations war as the scrappy, patriotic, and determined underdogs in this fight. More than that, though, the fact that they are holding out is inspiring people, who otherwise might not have given much thought to a regional squabble over territory, to take a side.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Russia and Ukraine began talks Monday at the Belarus border as the conflict between the two neighbors enters its fifth day. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4K6RIigxcH\">https:\/\/t.co\/4K6RIigxcH<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1498303498773045252?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 28, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What\u2019s more, on top of the financial pain being thrown Putin\u2019s way, some Western governments, including the U.S. are announcing weapons shipments to Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>All of the above puts enormous pressure on Putin to begin cease-fire talks, which might be happening as I write this.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, while no one can guess how a gangster like Putin might react, and if the news reports about the resistance are accurate, the Russian president is now between a rock and a hard place.<\/p>\n<p>Does he withdraw his invasion and accept the humiliation that comes with such a decision?
