Ironically, Hannah-Jones continues to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PhilWMagness\/status\/1493588639435079684\/photo\/1\"><span>advance<\/span><\/a><span> Desmond\u2019s claims, while reserving \u201cmost of her <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/nikole-hannah-jones-responds-to-our-1619-and-slavery-issue\/\"><span>ire<\/span><\/a><span>\u201d for political science professor Wilfred Reilly, a contributor to the <\/span><i><span>National Review<\/span><\/i><span> issue, who happens to be black.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Yet, Hannah-Jones has become a sought-out television pundit who frequently appears on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/transcripts\/transcript-reidout-2-8-22-n1288893\"><span>MSNBC<\/span><\/a><span> to commiserate with Joy-Ann Reid about what they call censorship laws against the use of The 1619 Project in schools. Recently, she expressed agreement with Reid, as Reid inveighed against Florida governor Ron DeSantis\u2019s Stop WOKE Act. Citing the Act\u2019s language, Reid said that the attempt to prevent feelings of \u201canguish\u201d or discomfort applies to \u201cwhite children\u201d only. Hannah-Jones agreed, \u201cWe should feel uncomfortable about racial apartheid.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Reid played the statement of Rick Stevens of Florida Citizens Alliance, \u201cWe want teachers to take sides that slavery was wrong. But they don\u2019t need to take sides that one race purposely did it, and so now that race is forever condemned and another race is forever exalted.\u201d Twisting around his words, Reid claimed that \u201cYou cannot teach this history without race.\u201d Hannah-Jones took the cue, stating, \u201cSlavery was a racist, racialized system. You could only be enslaved if you were of African descent. And the enslavers were of European descent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>True, laws forbade the enslavement of white people. But not all \u201censlavers were of European descent.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In fact, as I point out in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regnery.com\/9781684511778\/debunking-the-1619-project\/\"><i><span>Debunking The 1619 Project<\/span><\/i><\/a><span>, a significant percentage of free blacks \u2014 proportionally a third as many as whites \u2014 in the antebellum south were enslavers. Hannah-Jones revealed that she knows this too, when in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/books\/newsletter\/2021-11-06\/book-club-newsletter-nikole-hannah-jones-the-1619-project-book-club\"><i><span>Los Angeles Times<\/span><\/i><\/a><span> interview, she named <\/span><i><span>The Known World<\/span><\/i><span>, about a black slaveowner in antebellum Virginia, her favorite novel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Hannah-Jones also pretends that slavery had been invented in Jamestown in 1619. She ignores slavery\u2019s global and transhistorical existence. In response to my challenges on Twitter, she blocked me and then tweeted, \u201cLike, imagine using 1,000-year-old history to justify downplaying 150-year-old history\u201d \u2014 thus revealing that she was lying by omission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Yet, on MSBC she replied to Reid\u2019s prompt about whether black history would even be legal in Florida with, \u201cWhen you ask, will we see Black History Month being outlawed, we\u2019re already seeing black history programming being challenged in some states . . . because some white parents think that that\u2019s Critical Race Theory. . . .\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Well. . . .\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Similarly, Keisha N. Blain, professor of history at the University of Pittsburgh, who co-edited, with Ibram X. Kendi a collection titled <\/span><i><span>Four Hundred Souls<\/span><\/i><span> which included essays by Hannah-Jones and other 1619 Project contributors, in a recent article in the communist-sympathizing <\/span><i><span>Nation<\/span><\/i><span>, equated black history with CRT. She claimed that the \u201cobsession over critical race theory is a new manifestation\u201d of \u201clong-standing efforts to keep Black history\u2014and the perspectives of Black Writers\u2014out of the classroom.\u201d Yet, she cast\u00a0 conservatives\u2019 opposition to \u201c\u2019critical race theory\u2019 as being \u201crooted in a desire to shield their children from the uncomfortable aspects of history and evade \u2018sensitive\u2019 topics such as racism, white supremacy, and inequality.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The \u201chistory\u201d pushed by those like Blain and Hannah-Jones <\/span><i><span>does<\/span><\/i><span> present an anti-white\/anti-capitalist perspective, per CRT. It distorts history. It presents white people as uniquely marked with the \u201coriginal sin\u201d of slavery.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It follows the diktats of Vladimir Lenin, not the principles of the \u201cfather\u201d of black history month, Carter G. Woodson. After Lenin gave orders that \u201cThe Negroes in America\u201d were to be used as \u201ca strategically important element in Communist activity,\u201d the Communist Party USA released a statement in 1921 saying that the \u201csufferings\u201d of \u201cNegroes\u201d were to be fixed on the \u201cbourgeoisie and the Capitalist-Imperialist System!\u201d Slavery represented the quintessence of capitalist exploitation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Woodson, in contrast, acknowledged the \u201c1,000-year-old history.\u201d In his 1922 book, <\/span><i><span>The Negro in Our History<\/span><\/i><span>, Woodson stated, \u201cThat the Negro should be enslaved was in the halcyon days of the institution no exception to the rule. Slavery was once the normal condition of the majority of the inhabitants of the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sadly, in the 1920s, a number of black Americans were lured to the Soviet Union. One of these tragic figures was Lovett Fort-Whiteman, a writer and actor, who became an enthusiastic propagandist, only to meet his death in the gulag in 1939 by starvation, overwork, and beatings. But even such horrific deaths cannot dissuade communist-sympathizing historians like Glenda Elizabeth Gilmore. In <\/span><i><span>Defying Dixie: The Radical<\/span><\/i><span> [i.e, Communist] <\/span><i><span>Roots of Civil Rights, 1919-1950<\/span><\/i><span>, Gilmore defies the observations of black writers of the time, such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/weekly-standard\/who-was-george-schuyler\"><span>George Schuyler<\/span><\/a><span>,<\/span><span> and asserts that the Communists were the only white people concerned about black people in the South. She describes the excruciating death of this \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/legalinsurrection.com\/2017\/11\/lovett-fort-whiteman-the-first-african-american-communist\/\"><span>first black communist<\/span><\/a><span>\u201d in poetic terms, as evincing \u201cthe perfect equality of the gulag.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Not surprisingly, Gilmore has become a promoter of The 1619 Project on Twitter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The attitude of Gilmore is that individual black lives, like Fort-Whiteman\u2019s, don\u2019t matter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>And that is how Nikole Hannah-Jones felt about the loss of life \u2014 black and white \u2014 and property during the 1619 Project riots in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>That is how Communists think.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>There is plenty of black history and more can be written, especially about conservatives like George Schuyler.
