Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/RUSSIA-PUTIN-640x335-1.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">China <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltimes.cn\/page\/202202\/1253110.shtml\">lifted<\/a> all wheat import restrictions on Russia Thursday, the same day the U.S. and the U.K. announced the imposition of financial sanctions on Moscow in response to its invasion of Ukraine this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWheat from all of Russia\u2019s producing regions will be cleared for export to China, provided they meet certain requirements,\u201d China\u2019s General Administration of Customs announced on February 24.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Russian wheat exports to China had previously been subject to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-09-02\/wheat-king-russia-is-missing-out-on-china-s-buying-spree\">restrictions<\/a> due to Beijing\u2019s concern over Moscow\u2019s ability to prevent transmission of an agricultural crop disease known as dwarf bunt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChina will now accept wheat and barley from all over Russia, up from a previously allowed seven regions which excluded major growing areas,\u201d Russia\u2019s agriculture watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, said on February 4 after Moscow and Beijing first negotiated the deal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChina will no longer restrict trade in the cereals to certain parts of Russia, raising the prospect of Russia being able to send large vessels through the key Black Sea export route,\u201d Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/russia-china-grains-idAFL1N2UF10Y\">reported<\/a> of the agreement on February 4.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>China\u2019s decision to announce the trade agreement\u2019s finalization on February 24 \u2014 the same day Russia <a href=\"https:\/\/graphics.reuters.com\/UKRAINE-CRISIS\/zdpxokdxzvx\/\">launched<\/a> a military invasion of Ukraine \u2014 appeared conspicuous to many observers, who noted the action stood in stark contrast to a U.S- and U.K.-led effort to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/02\/25\/business\/list-global-sanctions-russia-ukraine-war-intl-hnk\/index.html\">impose<\/a> financial sanctions on Moscow to punish the Kremlin for its military aggression against Kyiv.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough the announcement was made on the same day as Russia\u2019s military operation against Ukraine, it is unrelated to the Russia-Ukraine situation,\u201d China\u2019s state-run <em>Global Times<\/em> claimed on February 24, citing Chinese political analysts.<\/p>\n<p>China negotiated its latest wheat deal with Russia following an in-person <a href=\"https:\/\/tass.com\/politics\/1397737\">meeting<\/a> between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing on February 4. Russia is the world\u2019s largest wheat supplier and has long sought to expand its wheat market within China, one of the globe\u2019s top wheat buyers.<\/p>\n<p>Moscow and Beijing \u201care continuing to work on potential trade opportunities,\u201d Rosselkhoznadzor said in a statement on February 4 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloombergquint.com\/global-economics\/big-win-for-russian-wheat-as-china-further-opens-its-market\">announcing<\/a> the wheat deal.<\/p>\n<p>These potential agreements include a plan that would allow Russia to supply peas to China by 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt may take a while for any significant [wheat] sales to China. There will probably be one or two test deliveries this season,\u201d Eduard Zernin, the head of the Russian Union of Grain Exporters, told Bloomberg on February 4.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLarge-scale deliveries may begin in the 2022-23 season, where we can expect a volume of at least 1 million tons, with the prospect of higher volumes as trade relations develop,\u201d he predicted.<\/p>\n<p>Bilateral trade between Russia and China increased by 26.6 percent year-on-year in 2021 to $150 billion, the <em>Global Times<\/em> reported on February 24.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRussian seed oil, barley and beef exports to China surged.
