Walt Blackman said any \u201chonest conversation\u201d about America\u2019s past of slavery and discrimination must also acknowledge the genocide of our present age: abortion. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are more black babies aborted than born every day,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><\/figure>\n<p>White leftist activists constantly talk about racism, but they conveniently ignore that their sacred cow of abortion is racist to its core.<\/p>\n<p>Abortion should never have become a political football. It used to be something every American, Democrat and Republican, agreed was wrong. <\/p>\n<p>Democrat politician and activist Jesse Jackson is a good example. In 1975, he <a href=\"https:\/\/groups.csail.mit.edu\/mac\/users\/rauch\/nvp\/consistent\/jackson.html\">compared<\/a> the <em>Roe v. Wade <\/em>decision to slavery: \u201cThere are those who argue that the right to privacy is of a higher order than the right to life \u2026 That was the premise of slavery.\u201d But after Jackson ran for the Democrat presidential nomination in 1988, he conformed to the pro-choice party line.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, a tragic dissonance has ensued in the black community over party affiliation and abortion. While <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/opinion\/polling-matters\/318932\/black-americans-abortion.aspx\">most black Americans<\/a> (54 percent) think abortion is morally unacceptable, they are still more closely associated with the Democratic Party and its abortion-friendly platform. Many black voters find themselves out of step with Democrat candidates seeking their votes, especially on social issues, similar to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/twilight-of-the-blue-collar-democrat\">blue-collar voters<\/a> who feel Democrat policies have left them behind.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats can easily reconcile with their voter base on this issue. Restoring respect for all life would win the hearts of many in the black community. <\/p>\n<p>A recently released <a href=\"https:\/\/curepolicy.org\/report\/the-impact-of-abortion-on-the-black-community\/\">report<\/a> from an organization we work with, the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE), shows the devastating effects of abortion on generations of black Americans. The report details the abortion industry\u2019s predatory practices \u2014 how abortion providers seek out minority women, advertise directly to them, and sometimes perform illegal procedures, like the infamous late-term abortionist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/wonk\/wp\/2013\/04\/15\/the-gosnell-case-heres-what-you-need-to-know\/\">Kermit Gosnell<\/a>. This multi-billion dollar industry isn\u2019t trying to protect anyone\u2019s rights; it\u2019s trying to profit off desperate women, especially black women.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, the Life Issues Institute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifeissues.org\/2012\/10\/new-research-shows-planned-parenthood-targets-minority-neighborhoods\">reported<\/a> that \u201c79% of Planned Parenthood\u2019s surgical abortion facilities are strategically located within walking distance of African-American and\/or Hispanic communities.\u201d In 2017, they updated these numbers to include 25 new abortion mega centers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifeissues.org\/2017\/06\/planned-parenthood-minority-targeting-goes-overdrive\">100 percent of which<\/a> were within walking distance of minority neighborhoods. With each abortion bringing in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abort73.com\/abortion\/abortion_for_profit\/\">hundreds or even thousands of dollars<\/a>, depending on whether they are early- or late-term abortions, it\u2019s clear that abortion providers are engaging in a grisly sort of supply-side economics.<\/p>\n<p>Worse still, abortion has always been a tool of racial eugenics, the ideology that seeks to limit \u201cundesirable\u201d black births. Star Parker, the founder of CURE and author of the report, argues that \u201cFrom its inception, the abortion industry has sought to control and hinder the growth of the Black population, a core objective of the movement\u2019s founders.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>This is a historical fact. Margaret Sanger, the founder of abortion giant Planned Parenthood, was a racial eugenicist who was <a href=\"https:\/\/sanger.hosting.nyu.edu\/articles\/bc_or_race_control\/\">concerned<\/a> that \u201cthe mass of Negroes \u2026 still breed carelessly and disastrously,\u201d and hired <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&#038;rct=j&#038;q=&#038;esrc=s&#038;source=web&#038;cd=&#038;ved=2ahUKEwji39-S3bL1AhWHUt8KHWHuB_8QFnoECAIQAQ&#038;url=https%3A%2F%2Flibex.smith.edu%2Fomeka%2Ffiles%2Foriginal%2Fd6358bc3053c93183295bf2df1c0c931.pdf&#038;usg=AOvVaw2tUYqJa8ujpoHhnZYxhTJO\">black pastors<\/a> lest \u201cword go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population.\u201d Many other early abortion activists, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.proquest.com\/openview\/c0cef25c992c760c075802bcaf77ddb8\/1?pq-origsite=gscholar&#038;cbl=18750\">Hugh Moore<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1177\/000271620101800104\">Edward Ross<\/a>, sought to expand abortion to prevent non-white population growth. Today, there are still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/opinion\/commentary\/black-women-maternal-health-abortion-20190118.html\">abortion activists who behave<\/a> like the black community needs more abortions.<\/p>\n<p>The politicization of abortion \u2014 an issue that is moral to its core \u2014 is a wound in our national fabric that we feel deeply and personally. One of us was born to a single mother and later adopted, but many others in the exact same situation were aborted. We work with CURE to support policies that help mothers with unplanned pregnancies avoid the grievous act of abortion. Black mothers especially face intense manipulation and pressure because of the politics of abortion. <\/p>\n<p>We must restore bipartisan moral common sense and offer hope to these women. There is no hope without justice, and there\u2019s no justice without truth. We can\u2019t talk about racism without talking about the dark stain on our society that abortion represents. Black Americans, who suffer disproportionately from abortion, deserve equal rights, including the right to life.
