Biden, a Democrat, on Feb. 20 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/biden-extends-us-national-emergency-over-covid-19_4290201.html\">said<\/a> the emergency will be extended beyond March 1 because of\u00a0a \u201crisk to the public health and safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other goals include \u201cletting our government know that you work for us,\u201d Brian Brase, one of the convoy organizers, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntd.com\/live-us-trucker-convoy-begins_743376.html\">a rally<\/a> that preceded the departure, drawing cheers. \u201cPeople can paint\u00a0this any way they want, they\u2019re going say this as a far-right or far-left or this is a partisan issue. But it\u2019s not; it\u2019s an American issue. It\u2019s a world issue. To the truck drivers around the world. Now is your time to stand up. (Enrico Trigoso\/The Epoch Times)<\/figure>\n<p>Federal authorities are monitoring the convoy and others like it, White House press secretary Jen Psaki <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/biden-administration-pelosi-closely-monitoring-trucker-convoys-heading-to-washington_4296841.html\">told reporters in Washington<\/a>. Maryland and Virginia state police are in touch with the District of Columbia and U.S. law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Capitol Police. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/pentagon-approves-deployment-of-national-guard-troops-for-dc-trucker-convoy-protest_4296291.html\">has approved<\/a> the deployment of hundreds of National Guard members to help respond to the convoys.<\/p>\n<p>Another convoy left Pennsylvania on Wednesday, led by tow truck company owner Bob Bolus. Bolus<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us-trucker-convoy-to-shut-down-traffic-on-major-roads-outside-washington-dc-organizer_4291970.html\"> told The Epoch Times<\/a> that the convoy planned to shut down traffic on the Capital Beltway which encircles Washington. Bolus said the convoy does not have a set timeline and wants to meet with Congress. \u201cWe want our voices heard,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Bolus said people with his convoy had spoken with those leading The People\u2019s Convoy, but\u00a0Dundas said that The People\u2019s Convoy is \u201cabsolutely not connected\u201d with them.<\/p>\n<p>Adelanto is about 80 miles outside of Los Angeles. The trip to Washington is about 2,600 miles.<\/p>\n<p>After several people delivered speeches, truckers departed with horns blaring as people waved American flags and waved. Truckers were joined by people driving a range of other vehicles, including SUVs and cars.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Pierre Kory, who has focused on early COVID-19 treatment, told the crowd that mandates and other government policies have lacked a scientific basis and failed to protect people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe viruses have infected our bodies and taken some of our lives, but the policies have ruined our society. Our society is so sick right now. And you\u2019re all here, trying to get us back on the right track.
