Mitt Romney blamed former President Donald Trump\u2019s policy of \u201cAmerica first\u201d after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPutin\u2019s impunity predictably follows our tepid response to his previous horrors in Georgia and Crimea, our naive efforts at a one-sided \u2018reset\u2019 and the shortsightedness of \u2018America First,&#8217;\u201d Romney said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MittRomney\/status\/1496683277385617412\">statement<\/a> released on social media Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Romney\u2019s statement hinted at Biden\u2019s attempt to \u201creset\u201d the relationship with Russia at the beginning of his term, but more aggressively criticized Trump\u2019s \u201cAmerica First\u201d foreign policy.<\/p>\n<p>The Utah senator, and failed presidential candidate, also took a shot at former President Barack Obama who beat him in 2012 for the presidency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u201980s called\u2019 and we didn\u2019t answer,\u201d Romney said, referring to a moment in the 2012 presidential debate when Obama dismissed his concerns about the threat that Russia posed to the world.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Under Trump, Putin did not make any additional significant actions against Ukraine, although he annexed Crimea in 2014 under former President Barack Obama\u2019s administration when Biden was vice president.<\/p>\n<p>Romney said that Putin\u2019s \u201ctyranny\u201d in Ukraine \u201cfalls on America as well\u201d and predicted additional aggressive actions from Russia in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHistory shows that a tyrant\u2019s appetite for conquest is never satiated,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Romney did not call for military action against Putin but called for \u201cthe harshest economic penalties\u201d on Russia for their actions.<\/p>\n<p>He also called for \u201cthe expansion and modernization\u201d of America\u2019s national defense.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
