The pre-taped categories are expected to find their way into the live show in an abbreviated form, according to multiple reports.<\/p>\n<p>The decision represents a drastic move by the Academy, which has rejected past suggestions to relegate some of the technical categories to a pre-show segment.<\/p>\n<p>Academy officials said in a letter to members that the change is intended to \u201cincrease viewer engagement and keep the show vital, kinetic, and relevant.\u201d The letter doesn\u2019t make any mention of the left-wing celebrity lectures that have become a hallmark of Hollywood awards show \u2014 and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/04\/25\/former-oscars-producer-vast-swaths-of-viewers-tuned-out-when-celebs-talked-politics\/\">major turn-off for viewers at home<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>In last year\u2019s ceremony, several presenters \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/04\/25\/oscars-2021-regina-king-kicks-off-ceremony-with-threat-to-protest-if-derek-chauvin-case-had-gone-differently\/\">including actress Regina King<\/a>, who kicked off the broadcast \u2014 used their air time to promote divisive, far-left views, with references to George Floyd and Black Lives Matter. The result: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/04\/26\/nolte-woketard-oscar-ratings-plummet-58-first-time-below-10-million-viewers\/\">record-low ratings<\/a> of around 10 million viewers.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Regina King: &#8220;I know that a lot of you people at home want to reach for your remote when you feel like Hollywood is preaching to you\u2014but as a mother of a Black son, I know the fear that so many live with, and no amount of fame or fortune changes that.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1nPGCH7lbu\">https:\/\/t.co\/1nPGCH7lbu<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3B8GrXZqtV\">pic.twitter.com\/3B8GrXZqtV<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The View (@TheView) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheView\/status\/1386473605056303108?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 26, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Oscars is following in the footsteps of the Tony Awards, which has experimented with presenting some of the technical awards during commercial breaks.<\/p>\n<p>But CBS\u2019 Tonys telecast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/09\/28\/nolte-tony-awards-collapse-to-all-time-low-of-2-6m-viewers\/\">has continued to see its ratings fall,<\/a> hitting a record low last year of just over 2 million viewers \u2014 a more than 50 percent collapse from the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Oscars season has gotten off to a chaotic and embarrassing starrt. The Academy botched its vaccination policy by backtracking on its initial plan to not mandate the vaccine.
