Vicky Hartzler scored another major endorsement in her bid to succeed Sen. Roy Blunt as polls show that the race\u2019s frontrunner could be a risky general election candidate.<\/p>\n<p>The Susan B. Anthony List endorsed Hartzler Tuesday, calling her an \u201cunwavering pro-life champion\u201d who is \u201cPlanned Parenthood\u2019s worst nightmare.\u201d It comes just days after Republican Sen. Josh Hawley also endorsed her over the rest of the crowded GOP field.<\/p>\n<p>The open race is one of the most high-profile primaries this election cycle. Other Republican candidates include Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, Rep. Billy Long, attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/21\/mark-patricia-mccloskey-missouri-senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark McCloskey<\/a> and former Gov. Eric Greitens, a one-time Democrat who resigned his post in 2018 after facing an allegation of sexual assault and being convicted with felony invasion of privacy.<\/p>\n<p>Hawley, who was attorney general at the time, led the investigation into Greitens, who then turned over his findings to a prosecutor in the state. All charges were dropped as part of a deal that led to Greitens resigning his post, though a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/04\/12\/committee-report-graphic-allegations-greitens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">report<\/a> released after the sexual assault allegation found his accuser to be credible.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/16\/ted-cruz-josh-hawley-endorsements-vicky-hartzler-eric-schmitt-missouri\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>(RELATED: Hawley Endorses Hartzler, And Another Candidate Is Pissed)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite Greitens\u2019 resignation, he has led in the GOP primary since announcing his candidacy last year. But several polls show that he would hold just a slim lead in a general election in a state that has trended sharply red in recent years.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6577335\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-6577335\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Former Gov. (Craig Barritt\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>One poll first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/02\/16\/missouri-senate-poll-alarms-gop-00009317\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> by Politico found that Greitens would lead 42.2% to 38.3% against Lucas Kunce, one of the Democrats vying for the spot, with 19.5% undecided.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought it might be good for me to be involved in this race. The field seemed to be fracturing and splintering,\u201d Hawley told the outlet. \u201cWe\u2019ve seen this happen in Missouri races. I just think it\u2019s so important we hold this seat.<\/p>\n<p>Another poll <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/politics-government\/article258546818.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> by The Kansas City Star found that a center-right independent candidate would secure 28% of the vote in a general election, potentially syphoning off votes from the Republican nominee and benefitting whomever wins the Democratic nomination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn independent is not going to be elected Missouri,\u201d said John Harris, a Republican strategist in the state. \u201cAll it would really do is aid a potential candidacy of Democrats.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
