After confirming his intention to recognize Donetsk and Luhansk as independent republics, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed treaties promising to preserve and defend those republics \u2014 and sent troops into those regions, claiming that they were to undertake a \u201cpeacekeeping mission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This all comes after weeks of posturing and intelligence that suggested Putin might use a \u201cfalse flag\u201d operation to provide cover for an invasion into Ukraine, and Keilar addressed that situation with Finer on Tuesday morning\u2019s broadcast of \u201cNew Day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, Brianna, we think this\u00a0is, yes, the beginning of an\u00a0invasion, Russia\u2019s latest invasion into\u00a0Ukraine, and you\u2019re already\u00a0seeing the beginning of our\u00a0response that we have said will\u00a0be swift and severe,\u201d Finer said. He also noted that in addition to new sanctions from the United States, Germany had announced Tuesday a plan to refuse certification of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo you called this the\u00a0beginning of the latest Russian\u00a0invasion of Ukraine,\u201d Keilar pressed.\u00a0\u201cIs that different than an\u00a0invasion?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think latest is important here. An invasion is an invasion and that is what is under way. But Russia has been invading Ukraine since 2014,\u201d Finer said. \u201cThey\u2019ve been occupying large pieces of Ukraine since 2014 including, although they\u2019ve denied it, Russian troop presence in exactly the two, what they now call republics, but they\u2019re really provinces of a sovereign Ukraine, that they recognized yesterday. So Russia is essentially making overt what it has denied for some time, which is Russian troop presence in these places and we are taking steps in response to that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy not call it an invasion?\u201d Keilar asked. \u201cJust call it an invasion instead\u00a0of this talking point of \u2018the\u00a0beginning of the latest Russian\u00a0invasion of Ukraine\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know how much more\u00a0clear I can be, Brianna. This is the beginning of an\u00a0invasion,\u201d Finer insisted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOkay. You could just call it an invasion,\u201d Keilar pressed again, noting that the Biden administration had been very clear in the weeks leading up to the current situation about what they believed constituted an \u201cinvasion.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>President Biden, January 20: \u201cIf any, any assembled Russian\u00a0units move across the Ukrainian\u00a0border, that is an invasion. But it will be met with severe\u00a0and coordinated economic\u00a0response that I\u2019ve discussed in\u00a0detail with our allies as well\u00a0as laid out very clearly for\u00a0President Putin.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Secretary of State Antony Blinken, January 21: \u201cIf any Russian military\u00a0forces move across Ukraine\u2019s\u00a0border, that\u2019s a renewed\u00a0invasion.\u00a0It will be met\u00a0with swift, severe and a united\u00a0response from the United States\u00a0and our partners and allies.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, February 6: \u201cPresident Biden has spoken to\u00a0the fact that if a Russian tank\u00a0or a Russian troop moves across\u00a0the border, that\u2019s an invasion.\u00a0That is an invasion and the\u00a0result of that, from our\u00a0perspective, would be the\u00a0imposition of severe economic\u00a0consequences.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cI think the distinction here\u00a0may have to do with the response\u00a0that an invasion triggers,\u201d Keilar tried once more.\u00a0\u201cWhy not just call it an\u00a0invasion?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, again, I guess for\u00a0the third or fourth time, I am\u00a0calling it an invasion,\u201d Finer conceded.<\/p>\n<p><i>The Daily Wire\u2019s first original film, Shut In, has made its cinematic debut, being met with rave reviews.
