However, in the days that followed CBS News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/video\/sandy-hook-families-settle-with-remington-for-73-million\/\">reported<\/a>\u00a0the settlement was for $73 million.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>On February 16, 2022, CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/02\/15\/us\/sandy-hook-shooting-settlement-with-remington\/index.html\">noted<\/a>\u00a0the families\u2019 attorneys used \u201cmarketing argument\u201d to get around the lawsuit protections contained in the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (2005). Those attorneys \u201ccontended that the company marketed rifles by extolling the militaristic qualities of the rifle and reinforcing the image of a combat weapon \u2014 in violation of a Connecticut law that prevents deceptive marketing practices.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/02\/15\/nyregion\/sandy-hook-families-settlement.html\">pointed out<\/a>\u00a0President Biden praised the settlement with Remington, saying, \u201cWhile this settlement does not erase the pain of that tragic day, it does begin the necessary work of holding gun manufacturers accountable for manufacturing weapons of war and irresponsibly marketing these firearms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On February 24, 2020, Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/02\/24\/joe-biden-to-gun-manufacturers-im-going-to-take-you-down\/\">talked<\/a> of his desire to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act during a South Carolina campaign stop.
