Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/GettyImages-802033016-640x335-1.png\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">Prince Andrew had \u201cno choice\u201d but to reach a settlement with Virginia Guiffre as his \u201chead was in a vice\u201d, a lawyer who previously represented survivors of deceased millionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview.<\/p>\n<p>Barry Salzman, an attorney who previously represented on a pro bono basis around 20 claimants to the Epstein fund, said that prior to the settlement, the Duke of York was in a \u201cvery difficult position\u201d as his legal strategy was \u201creliant\u201d on the hope that Judge Lewis Kaplan&nbsp;\u2014 who presided over the Guiffre civil case against Andrew in New York \u2014 was going to dismiss the case.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>When a dismissal failed to materialise, the Prince faced the prospect of being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?client=internal-element-cse&amp;cx=partner-pub-9229289037503472:6795176714&amp;q=https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/05\/prince-andrew-to-be-deposed-by-epstein-accuser-giuffres-lawyers-in-london-report\/&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjC-L6ZjIr2AhXCUMAKHZEWDNcQFnoECAYQAg&amp;usg=AOvVaw1whFT0IJcHOZ9RKWHu1yhT\">deposed<\/a> by Guiffre\u2019s lawyers in London.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he were to have gone to that deposition and perjured himself, now he faces criminal charges,\u201d Salzman said, noting that a similar situation befell Epstein co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell, who in addition to being prosecuted for sex trafficking was also charged with perjury.<\/p>\n<p>On top of this, Prince Andrew came under \u201ctremendous pressure\u201d when the Royal Family distanced themselves from him, which created a \u201cpublic relations nightmare,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think he settled because he somehow had some change of heart, that he felt bad or anything like that, I think that it was simply his head was in a vice and he had no choice,\u201d Salzman said.<\/p>\n<p>In the settlement, which was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/15\/reports-prince-andrew-settles-out-of-court-agrees-undisclosed-sum-payment-to-virginia-giuffre\/\">ann<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/15\/reports-prince-andrew-settles-out-of-court-agrees-undisclosed-sum-payment-to-virginia-giuffre\/\">ounced<\/a> earlier this week, Prince Andrew made no admission of guilt and he has consistently maintained his innocence,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2019\/11\/15\/prince-andrew-i-have-no-recollection-of-ever-meeting-epstein-victim-who-named-him-in-underage-sex-ring\/\">saying<\/a>&nbsp;in 2019: \u201cIt didn\u2019t happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement released following the agreement, the Duke of York stated that he&nbsp;\u201cintends to make a substantial donation\u201d to a charity \u201cin support of victims\u2019 rights\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">How Much? Angry UK Reaction to Prince Andrew Settlement with Virginia Giuffre <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PX4EZ6wrh9\">https:\/\/t.co\/PX4EZ6wrh9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1493957085993705474?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 16, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The victims\u2019 rights attorney and activist went on to say that Virginia Guiffre\u2019s case, alongside the conviction of Maxwell, should give other victims of Epstein some satisfaction.&nbsp;Yet, he caveated by saying that he believes that there will be widespread dissatisfaction among the victims if \u201cother perpetrators are not brought to justice\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The future of the Epstein saga and the high profile figures associated with him \u2013such as former President Bill Clinton, who reportedly flew on Epstein\u2019s private jet, the so-called \u201cLolita Express\u201d, on at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2019\/07\/11\/even-new-york-times-skeptical-of-bill-clintons-jeffrey-epstein-claims\/\">least 26 different occasions<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 remains in doubt.<\/p>\n<p>Following her conviction for sex trafficking, British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell\u2019s brother publicly stated that she is unlikely to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/12\/31\/maxwells-brother-ghislaine-a-scapegoat-for-epstein-she-wont-flip\/\">flip<\/a>\u201d and co-operate with authorities by turning on other potential abusers in exchange for a lighter sentence.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Indeed, Maxwell may not even need to make such a deal with the government, as the conviction against her has been<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/06\/ghislaine-maxwell-lawyers-demand-retrial-over-juror-admissions\/\"> thrown into question<\/a> after one of the jurors in the case reportedly lied to the court about his previous experience as a sexual abuse survivor and allegedly used this experience to sway the rest of the jury against Maxwell, spurring her lawyers to call for a retrial.<\/p>\n<p>More crucially for Salzman, any future actions taken against Epstein co-conspirators will hinge on \u201cwhat sort of evidence is out there\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said that hard evidence will be crucial as&nbsp;\u201cthere is such a hurdle for sexual abuse survivors to overcome the inherent bias against these kinds of cases, especially with the passage of so many years,\u201d noting that the case against Prince Andrew would have been much more difficult without the infamous picture of the Duke of York with Virginia Guiffre,&nbsp;the authenticity of which has never been proven.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>One of the big remaining questions in terms of evidence against other potential sexual abusers in Epstein\u2019s circle is the fate of the infamous collection of pictures and CDs containing evidence of apparently high-profile men having inappropriate sexual encounters with minors.<\/p>\n<p>Following a search warrant raid on his&nbsp;New York mansion in July of 2019, the FBI decided to leave the treasure trove of evidence behind, as the warrant apparently only allowed agents to search the house, apparently barring them from removing evidence, FBI special agent Kelly Maguire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/the-media\/2022\/01\/05\/ann-coulter-the-great-epstein-cover-up-part-i\/\">said<\/a> during the Maxwell trial.<\/p>\n<p>Agents only returned to the Manhattan mansion four days later with a warrant to seize the evidence, at which time it had been removed by Richard Kahn, Epstein\u2019s lawyer. The big question will be if the victims will want to stay in the public eye, he said, highlighting that they would likely have received more financial compensation if they had pursued litigation instead of settling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was such a traumatic experience that they wanted to put behind them, I don\u2019t know how interested they are in spending the rest of their lives chasing down people and litigating against them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Drawing on his previous experience of representing hundreds of sexual abuse victims of the clergy, Salzman spoke of the \u201clongstanding emotional scarring\u201d that can occur from even just one instance of abuse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was so striking, I dealt with men and women in their seventies who were abused when they were 13 or 12, and so many years later these people were so greatly affected by it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The attorney said that Virginia Giuffre had therefore demonstrated a lot of \u201cbravery\u201d in coming forward against Prince Andrew, who publicly accused her of suffering from \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/01\/16\/prince-andrew-suggests-epstein-accuser-giuffre-suffers-from-false-memories-of-alleged-rape\/\">false memories<\/a>\u201d and only looking for a \u201cpayday\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have to give her a lot of credit, we are so jaded in our society that we think everyone is just in it for the money, but it\u2019s not easy for someone to put themselves out there and tell the world what happened to them, knowing that they will be the subject of personal and unrelenting attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">More than 150 UK military veterans have written to Queen Elizabeth and asked her to strip Prince Andrew of his honorary military titles.
