So, at what point do you breakaway from the strategy, say it\u2019s not working and do something else, imposing these sanctions now?\u201d Heinrich asked, noting that the proposed sanctions avoided specific avenues in an effort to minimize collateral damage to other countries.<\/p>\n<p>Psaki pushed back, saying that the Biden administration viewed the proposed sanctions as deterrents and believed the leverage came from threatening them rather than imposing them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you put all of the sanctions in place now, what is stopping them from invading?\u201d Psaki asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre they working?\u201d Heinrich asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell \u2026 I think that\u2019s our assessment from the national security team and, you know, we will continue to implement that strategy,\u201d Psaki replied.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Psaki: &#8220;If you put all of the sanctions in place now, what is stopping them from invading?&#8221;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JacquiHeinrich?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JacquiHeinrich<\/a>: &#8220;Are they working?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Psaki: &#8220;Well\u2026I think that&#8217;s our assessment from the national security team and\u2026we will continue to implement [our] strategy.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4GScs09rml\">pic.twitter.com\/4GScs09rml<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CurtisHouck\/status\/1494776653217734656?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 18, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re waiting for people to die before implementing them in that case,\u201d Heinrich pressed again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think, Jacqui, that\u2019s in no way a fair statement or accusation, I guess, if that\u2019s what that is. He said, quote, \u2018Today our partners are saying that war may start tomorrow if there was a powerful escalation on the Russian side and then there will be powerful sanctions applied.\u2019 The question is why are you not introducing sanctions now rather than waiting until after the escalation. What\u2019s your answer to that?\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/let-me-back-up-winsome-sears-directly-challenges-dana-bash-claim-that-crt-is-not-in-virginia-curriculum\/\">Bash<\/a> asked.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cFirst of all, Dana, as I said, we are not waiting. We are doing a lot right now,\u201d Blinken insisted, saying that the United States was \u201ctaking the lead\u201d on coordinating what he said would be \u201cmassive consequences\u201d that would be implemented if Russia were to make a move against Ukraine in the coming days or weeks.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn Ukraine we\u2019re providing \u2014 and last year alone provided more military assistance to Ukraine than any year in the past. We\u2019ve been going against those inside Ukraine trying to destabilize the government. We\u2019re taking concrete action,\u201d Blinken continued.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBut you\u2019re not imposing the sanctions?\u201d Bash pressed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhen it comes to sanctions, the purpose of those sanctions is to deter Russian aggression.
