If gun owners are not allowed to keep those specific semi-automatic firearms under a Biden ban, that would effectively amount to a mandatory gun confiscation-type program.<\/p>\n<p>Something similar happened several years ago when the Trump administration banned bump stocks following the October 1, 2017, Las Vegas shooting.<\/p>\n<p>NPR <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2019\/03\/26\/706905757\/bump-stock-ban-takes-effect-as-gun-rights-groups-ask-supreme-court-for-delay#:~:text=Bump%20stocks%20%E2%80%94%20the%20gun%20add,of%20%24250%2C000%20for%20each%20violation.\">reported<\/a> on March 26, 2019:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Bump stocks \u2014 the gun add-ons that can dramatically increase their rate of fire \u2014 are now officially illegal in the U.S., after a Trump administration ban took effect Tuesday. Anyone selling or owning bump stocks could face up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000 for each violation. \u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The ban requires any bump stocks to be destroyed or turned in to law enforcement authorities. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has even posted instructions and diagrams showing how to destroy one of the devices and satisfy the new ban.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn fact, no bump stocks will be \u2018grandfathered in,&#8217;\u201d as NPR\u2019s Martin Kaste reported last month. \u201cThe new federal rule reclassifies them all as \u2018machine guns,\u2019 no matter when they were purchased, and owning one will become a felony.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Biden\u2019s call on Congress to enact legislation that would strip gun manufacturers of immunity from lawsuits who \u201cknowingly put weapons of war on our streets\u201d is essentially a backdoor way of trying to bankrupt the gun industry or force them to drastically change the types of weapons they are willing to sell.<\/p>\n<p>When gun control activists use the term \u201cweapons of war,\u201d they are generally using it in such a way as to portray the weapons that they want to ban as \u201cweapons\u201d that are used in \u201cwar,\u201d as in used by militaries. However, this is inaccurate because the types of weapons that gun control activists are referring to, usually AR-15-style rifles, are not used in war. The variants of those rifles that are currently sold by gun manufacturers in the U.S. are semi-automatic firearms, not the fully automatic versions that are used by military.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s call on Congress to restrict Americans\u2019 constitutionally protected Second Amendment rights comes after his call for \u201cunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Approximately <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/264932\/percentage-americans-own-guns.aspx\">one out of every three<\/a> Americans own a firearm, nearly half the country lives in a household where firearms are present, and there are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/wonk\/wp\/2018\/06\/19\/there-are-more-guns-than-people-in-the-united-states-according-to-a-new-study-of-global-firearm-ownership\/\">more<\/a> firearms than people in the United States. Gun sales smashed all-time records last year amid the pandemic and violent riots that broke out in major U.S. cities, which are largely run by Democrats. Nearly five million Americans <a href=\"https:\/\/newschannel9.com\/news\/local\/tectonic-shift-as-first-time-gun-buyers-grow-to-nearly-5-million#:~:text=%E2%80%94%20Nearly%205%20million%20Americans%20purchased,never%20previously%20owned%20a%20firearm.\">bought<\/a> a firearm for the very first time last year.<\/p>\n<p>Forbes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/aaronsmith\/2021\/01\/13\/capitol-riots-could-accelerate-gun-sales-over-fears-of-civil-unrest-and-looming-gun-control\/?sh=5e37c4726178\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Civil unrest has served as a prime driver of gun sales during the coronavirus pandemic, as Americans buy firearms for self-protection. Federal background checks for gun purchases surged 40% to a record 39.7 million in 2020, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, while gunmakers Smith &amp; Wesson and Sturm, Ruger RGR +0.1% reported double-digit increases in sales.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Statistician Leah Libresco wrote in The Washington Post following the Las Vegas shooting that she used to think that gun control was the answer to reducing gun violence, but that her research eventually proved otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA reduction in gun deaths is most likely to come from finding smaller chances for victories and expanding those solutions as much as possible,\u201d Libresco <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/i-used-to-think-gun-control-was-the-answer-my-research-told-me-otherwise\/2017\/10\/03\/d33edca6-a851-11e7-92d1-58c702d2d975_story.html\">concluded<\/a> from her statistical research. \u201cWe save lives by focusing on a range of tactics to protect the different kinds of potential victims and reforming potential killers, not from sweeping bans focused on the guns themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is seemingly little limit to what Biden wants to target when it comes to the Second Amendment, ranging from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atr.org\/biden-impose-200-gun-tax?amp\">taxing<\/a> gun owners, banning magazines \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/no-compromise-biden-goes-extreme-guns-calls-ban-ryan-saavedra\">that can hold multiple bullets in them<\/a>,\u201d offering \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/no-compromise-biden-goes-extreme-guns-calls-ban-ryan-saavedra\">no compromise<\/a>\u201d on the issue, and making other incoherent remarks like claiming that a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-rational-gun-policy-is-banning-50-clips-in-a-weapon-ak-47-wont-protect-you-from-government\">rational policy<\/a>\u201d on guns is making sure \u201cyou cannot have 20, 30, 40, 50 clips in a weapon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While on the campaign trail, Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/joe-biden-declares-beto-orourke-to-lead-bidens-anti-gun-agenda\">said<\/a> that far-left gun control activist Beto O\u2019Rourke was \u201cgoing to be the one who leads this effort\u201d for the Biden administration.
