Ted Cruz introduced an amendment on Thursday to block federal funds to schools and child care centers that enforce COVID-19 vaccine mandates on students and young children.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/defund_mandates_1_pager.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amendment<\/a> would modify the $1.6 trillion continuing resolution (CR) to fund the Federal government through March 11, 2022, by prohibiting federal funds from being distributed to schools and child care centers that have a COVID-19 vaccine mandate related to enrollment, in-person attendance, and participation in school-sponsored activities.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">RELEASE: Senator Cruz Introduces Amendment to Stop COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates on Children, Cut Off Federal Funds for Schools that Enforce Them<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TzDebZg4mF\">https:\/\/t.co\/TzDebZg4mF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenTedCruz\/status\/1494320902170980354?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cEnough is enough. Schools shouldn\u2019t get federal taxpayer dollars to trample on our constitutional liberties. It\u2019s time for all of us to take a stand. Are you with parents and kids, or power hungry politicians?\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The amendment would restrict federal funding to \u201cany entity, school, center or facility that imposes such a mandate,\u201d including state and local educational agencies, public schools and charter schools, private schools, child care centers, and Head Start facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The protections would also prohibit \u201cvaccine-status discrimination to ensure schools do not use coercion, like denial of participation in school sports teams, music programs, field trips, and school dances, unless a child is vaccinated against COVID-19,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/defund_vaccine_mandates.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">background document<\/a> provided with Cruz\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Families have had enough. A Houston Chronicle <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/E3o4a7TOg1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> shared by the senator also noted Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy has joined Cruz in threatening to push toward a government shutdown over the mandates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe American people have had enough of Biden\u2019s unconstitutional mandates that trample on our rights. That\u2019s why we\u2019re sending a clear message to everyone suffering under Biden \u2013 from our military service members, to federal employees, to nurses and hospital staff: the days of these tyrannical mandates are numbered,\u201d Cruz said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/sen-cruz-reps-chip-roy-and-mike-johnson-lead-on-amicus-brief-against-bidens-federal-workforce-vaccine-mandate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBiden\u2019s federal COVID vaccine mandates are tyrannical, unconstitutional and have no place in America.&nbsp; They are nothing but a failing political push from a failed President in brazen defiance of science, fact, and our natural rights,\u201d Roy added in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, I am honored to join my friends, Senator Ted Cruz, Congressman Mike Johnson, and the patriots at the First Liberty Institute in filing this amicus curiae brief in the Fifth Circuit to support the legal fight to Biden\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine mandates for federal workers and contractors. Meanwhile, the American people are rightfully fed up with this; while the courts continue to work through this legal challenge, Congress should vote against any funding for these mandates,\u201d Roy also wrote.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the new amendment, Cruz introduced a joint resolution in January to stop a Washington, D.C., COVID-19 vaccine mandate for K-12th grade students from going into effect. The Daily Wire previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/sen-cruz-introduces-bill-to-end-d-c-student-vaccine-mandate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The resolution seeks to use the Home Rule Act passed in 1973 that allows Congress to retain the right to oversee city governance in the District of Columbia.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The resolution was co-sponsored by Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and Roger Marshall (R-KS).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cNo petty tyrant, whether in a federal agency, state governor\u2019s mansion, or city council should be able to force COVID vaccines on children \u2013 much less threaten to take away their right to an education for not complying.
