No such invasion occurred.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Lost in remarks from Biden administration and other Western leaders on the topic is the fact that Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014 and continues to illegally occupy Crimea and maintains a significant presence in the Donbas region. Russia claims Crimea as a legitimate Russian territory but denies any involvement in Donbas.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the lack of action after the White House\u2019s first predictions that Russian leader Vladimir Putin could expand the Ukrainian invasion before the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics began, and after the predictions of an invasion on Wednesday proved not to have come to pass, Biden asserted on Thursday that Russia would formally invade \u201cin the next several days.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: Pres. Biden tells <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CeciliaVega?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CeciliaVega<\/a> that he thinks Russian leader Vladimir Putin will invade Ukraine \u201cin the next several days.\u201d  <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/hHpxQUtZbn\">https:\/\/t.co\/hHpxQUtZbn<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2rvlCUIqwU\">pic.twitter.com\/2rvlCUIqwU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ABC News (@ABC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ABC\/status\/1494320639154532352?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Biden\u2019s remarks followed claims from the Russian Defense Ministry that it had pulled troops away from the Ukrainian border.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs combat training measures are coming to a close, the troops, as is always the case, will conduct combined marches to their permanent garrisons,\u201d a Defense Ministry spokesman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2022\/02\/15\/russia-claims-ukraine-standoff-is-over\/\">said<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Both Biden administration officials and NATO leadership disputed the claim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have yet to see any pullback, any withdrawal of Russian forces from around Ukraine\u2019s borders,\u201d Secretary of State Antony Blinken <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukrinform.net\/rubric-polytics\/3405337-blinken-us-intelligence-sees-no-withdrawal-of-russian-forces.html\">said<\/a> in an interview with Ukrainian television on Wednesday. \u201cWe\u2019re watching that very carefully, and again, it\u2019s very important to look at what Russia actually does, not what it says it\u2019s doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, an unnamed senior Biden administration official claimed in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/press-briefings\/2022\/02\/16\/background-press-call-previewing-the-vice-presidents-trip-to-munich-germany\/\">call<\/a> on Wednesday that Russia had actually increased, not drawn down, its military presence near Ukraine.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe have now confirmed that in the last several days, Russia has increased its troop presence along the Ukrainian border by as many as 7,000 troops, with some arriving as recently as today,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n<p>NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg issued a corresponding assessment on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ukraine on Monday dismissed the Biden State Department&#8217;s withdrawal of the families of U.S. embassy staff in Kyiv as &#8220;premature.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/6nyqLuyAi7\">https:\/\/t.co\/6nyqLuyAi7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1485765049293680641?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 25, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe have heard the signs from Moscow about readiness to continue diplomatic efforts. But so far, we have not seen any de-escalation on the ground. On the contrary, it appears that Russia continues its military buildup,\u201d Stoltenberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voanews.com\/a\/stoltenberg-says-no-evidence-of-russian-withdrawals\/6443909.html\">asserted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Satellite images taken of the Ukrainian border with Belarus appear to corroborate these claims. Photos&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rferl.org\/a\/satellite-images-belarus-ukraine-russia-military-activity\/31707879.html\">published<\/a> by Radio Free Europe\/Radio Liberty (RFE\/RL) appear to show \u201cthe building of a pontoon bridge in Belarus and the arrival of attack helicopters\u201d by Russian forces.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The Zelensky administration in Ukraine has largely reacted to the current panic of an imminent war in the United States with frustration, as a war with Russian-backed separatists has been ongoing on Russian soil for nearly a decade. The state-run site Ukrinform published an editorial on Wednesday explaining that the lack of panic among average Ukrainians, compared to breathless reports in Western media, is largely the product of the fact that ongoing war is a daily reality for Ukrainians already.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the wide range of feelings experienced by Western journalists deployed in Ukraine in these troubled days is confusion. After all, Europe froze at the sound of Russian war drums,\u201d the editorial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukrinform.net\/rubric-polytics\/3405389-russian-war-engine-failure-whats-going-on-in-ukraine.html\">narrated<\/a>. \u201cThe feed keeps bringing alarming news on Russian tanks, artillery and Iskander missile systems amassed along the Ukrainian border. \u2026 Yet, there\u2019s no apparent war fear in Ukraine \u2013 much to everyone\u2019s surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason behind it is quite simple \u2013 Russia has been waging war against Ukraine for eight years already. On Monday, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/16\/ukraine-zelensky-celebrates-joke-were-getting-invaded-holiday\/\">declared<\/a> Wednesday a holiday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are told that February 16 will be the day of the attack. We will make it the Day of Unity,\u201d Zelensky&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/14\/ukraines-zelensky-declares-rumored-date-of-russian-invasion-a-national-holiday\/\">said<\/a>&nbsp;in a nationally televised address. \u201cThe relevant decree has already been signed.
