(SS MIRZA\/AFP\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The court acquitting him did not indicate that it had any doubt that he had killed her.<\/p>\n<p>Waseem\u2019s layer, Sardar Mahboob, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1675079\">confirmed<\/a> to Pakistan\u2019s <em>Dawn<\/em> newspaper on February 14 that his client was acquitted of Baloch\u2019s murder that day by Lahore\u2019s High Court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said that the trial court had \u2018wrongly exercised its power\u2019 and sentenced Waseem under the Pakistan Penal Code\u2019s Section 311, dealing with <em>fasad-fil-arz<\/em> (mischief on earth), even though he had been pardoned by the deceased\u2019s heirs,\u201d <em>Dawn<\/em> relayed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSection 311 [of the Pakistan Penal Code] is usually invoked after a person has been pardoned by the victim\/complainant,\u201d the newspaper noted. (AAMIR QURESHI\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Waseem was sentenced to life in prison by a trial court in Pakistan in 2019 for strangling Baloch to death in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The man \u201cbrazenly [told] the press he had no remorse for the slaying because her behaviour was \u2018intolerable,&#8217;\u201d <em>Dawn<\/em> recalled on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Waseem also told Pakistani media he murdered his sister \u201cfor dishonoring the Baloch name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Baloch was known by some as \u201cthe Kim Kardashian of Pakistan\u201d for her overtly sexual behavior and appearance, which she regularly conveyed through a heavy social media presence before her death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBaloch scandalized conservative Pakistanis as she flirted with mullahs and offered to strip if her country won in cricket,\u201d NPR <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/02\/15\/1080843294\/qandeel-baloch-brother-acquittal-murder-pakistan\">recalled<\/a> on February 15.<\/p>\n<p>Breitbart News reported in July 2016 that Baloch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/national-security\/2016\/07\/18\/qandeel-baloch-brother-proud-honor-killing\/\">met<\/a> with \u201ca prominent Islamic cleric\u201d named Mufti Qavi in person shortly before her death. Baloch posted photos of their encounter to her social media that subsequently caused the Islamic cleric to lose his job.
