Although the pollster\u2019s information and other data remained anonymous, <em>Politico<\/em> attempted to use the poll as an example of a purported divide between Missouri Republicans, despite Greitens being the leading Republican in the Senate race.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Former Trump White House aide Steven Cheung, who\u2019s now working for Greitens, called out&nbsp;<em>Politico<\/em>&nbsp;for their faulty polling. \u201cThis is an unnamed poll with no information about who commissioned it,\u201d Cheung&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CaliforniaPanda\/status\/1494074644504195074\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a>. \u201cWhere are the crosstabs? Where did it come from? What was the sample size? What are the overall numbers? What are the results for the other candidates?\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is an unnamed poll with no information about who commissioned it. What are the results for the other candidates? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wsfQo3NgjP\">https:\/\/t.co\/wsfQo3NgjP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Steven Cheung (@CaliforniaPanda) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CaliforniaPanda\/status\/1494074644504195074?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 16, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Aside from referencing the poll\u2019s margin of error, <em>Politico<\/em> provided no other information about this alleged survey.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Cheung said the report was an example of \u201cswampy D.C. insiders\u201d who have consistently pushed a \u201cNever Trump\u201d agenda. \u201cSwampy DC insiders are so fucking scared and desperate they have resorted to running fake, no-name polls,\u201d he said. \u201cThese are the same Never Trump forces that fought against the movement from Day 1 and will continue to be remembered as losers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the source of the anonymous poll is unclear, Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell does not want Greitens to win the GOP nomination for Senate in Missouri. That\u2019s because Greitens has made removing McConnell from the Senate GOP leadership a central plank of his U.S. Senate bid.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps most interesting is the fact that Politico\u2019s top politics editor, Charlie Mahtesian, actually admitted in an email to the Greitens campaign that the report was \u201cunfair\u201d and that publishing anonymous polling goes against the publication\u2019s standard practices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s true that we typically won\u2019t write about an unnamed poll or one commissioned by a campaign,\u201d Mahtesian, the senior politics editor for Politico, said in the email to the Greitens campaign, which was subsequently obtained by Breitbart News.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cBut on occasion we will, depending on the circumstances \u2013 how much of it do we see, how well do we know the source and their motives, who was the pollster, how newsworthy are the findings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mahtesian continued in the email to acknowledge that Politico\u2019s reporting on the poll \u201cfelt unfair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe felt the circumstances warranted writing \u2013 the polling spoke to a key argument in the primary,\u201d Mahtesian wrote.&nbsp;\u201cBut I can see why it might have felt unfair, or the application of a different standard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Greitens campaign manager Dylan Johnson called out <em>Politico\u2019s<\/em> tactics and said they \u201cprove that Governor Greitens is dominating this race, and the insiders can\u2019t stand it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe same fake news media who have lied about Governor Greitens for years are lying again.
