Chuck Schumer\u2019s (D-NY) finally&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/senate-republican-leader-mcconnell-meet-with-feds-powell-inflation-2022-02-15\/\">said<\/a>&nbsp;Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\">\u201cWe\u2019re going to focus like a laser on reducing costs \u2014 the new proposals and new ideas keep coming,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/02\/15\/us\/politics\/democrats-inflation-gas-tax-deficit.html\">continued<\/a>.&nbsp;\u201cWe\u2019re going to propose legislation and we\u2019re going to move forward, and we\u2019re going to go back to our states and start talking about these things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden on Tuesday also acknowledged Bidenflation is hurting Americans\u2019 pocketbooks. \u201cThere is real inflation, and if you\u2019re in a working-class family, it hurts. That\u2019s why my Build Back Better plan \u2014 what\u2019s it all about,\u201d Biden said. \u201cLook, families are getting clobbered by the cost of everyday things.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>On Wednesday, Sen. John Thune (R-SD), an establishment Republican who often agrees with Democrats,&nbsp;pointed out&nbsp;that Schumer and Biden have finally realized Democrats were wrong on inflation due to polling data. Thune&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/02\/15\/us\/politics\/democrats-inflation-gas-tax-deficit.html\">said:<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\">The Democrats made a very noticeable pivot yesterday, I don\u2019t know if you noticed this, but starting with Senator Schumer\u2019s floor marks, but throughout the day, all of a sudden they\u2019re starting to talk about inflation. So evidently, they have looked at some polling data and realized the impact that this is having on the American people and what the American people think about their leadership as a result of that.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But Schumer\u2019s solutions to reducing inflation are to spend more taxpayer money, flood the economy with cash, and give handouts via the costly Build Back Better package.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\">\u201cWe\u2019re having lots of discussions with individual senators to get Build Back Better moving again,\u201d Schumer said Tuesday. \u201cWe\u2019re sitting down and discussing things with Senator Manchin, and we want to hear what he has to say.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\">Manchin, who hails from a state that nearly voted by 40 percentage points for Trump, has indicated over and over again he is not interested in spending more taxpayer money while inflation is at a 40-year-high.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\">\u201cI cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation. I just can\u2019t. I\u2019ve tried everything humanly possible. I can\u2019t get there,\u201d Manchin said about Biden\u2019s massive spending package.<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear where Schumer&nbsp;may&nbsp;turn with Manchin\u2019s opposition.&nbsp;University of California, Berkeley, economics professor Yuriy Gorodnichenko told Reuters he is unsure what the Democrat-controlled Congress can do about Biden\u2019s inflation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\">\u201cI\u2019m not sure there\u2019s much Congress can do about it,\u201d he said, citing the cost increases across a broad range of sectors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\">Polling data indicates inflation and the economy are top issues heading into the November midterms.
