The health and safety of our students and staff is our number one priority, guiding every decision we make during this pandemic. Our roll back plan uses community transmission data and health expert recommendations to inform our decision-making.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>While we continue to see declines in COVID cases across our community, we remain in high transmission and all current layered prevention strategies, including masking, remain in place.&nbsp;FCPS will implement our roll back strategy when the Fairfax County community reaches moderate transmission and remains there for seven consecutive days.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>When that happens, the following changes will go into effect:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Masking<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>will be optional. Universal masking will only be required during high or substantial community transmission rates. There may also be times, such as an outbreak, when some students and staff will be asked to wear masks during mask-optional community transmission levels to protect the public health.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>FCPS employees who are not fully vaccinated or are unvaccinated will still be required to wear a mask indoors, regardless of transmission level, as outlined by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.doli.virginia.gov\/final-covid-19-standard-frequently-asked-questions\/#PPE%20and%20Face%20Masks\" data-extlink=\"\">Department of Labor and Industry<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On Monday, a bill that would make masks optional in Virginia schools was passed by the Republican-controlled House of Delegates, where it is expected to be signed by GOP Governor Glenn Youngkin.<\/p>\n<p>ABC 7 <a href=\"https:\/\/wjla.com\/news\/local\/fairfax-county-schools-announce-roll-back-plan-with-an-off-ramp-for-universal-masking\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;last Thursday, \u201cRight now, the CDC and Virginia Department of Health classify Fairfax County as being in \u2018High Transmission\u2019, with over 250 cases per 100,000 people. Case numbers and positivity rates are currently dropping, but the county won\u2019t reach \u2018Moderate Transmission\u2019 levels until there are less than 50 cases per 100,000 people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bonnie Myshrall, the president of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fairfaxparents.org\/\">Fairfax County Parents Association<\/a>, told ASBC 7 that the FCPS roll back plan on masking came far too late, commenting, \u201cIt was frustrating, because as parents we had been advocating for these off-ramps for a year and a half or more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adams traveled to Richmond on Friday, where she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wusa9.com\/article\/news\/local\/virginia\/some-teachers-oppose-bill-to-make-masks-optional-in-virginia\/65-6d71b1c9-fc31-4532-80fa-8e5f5286e479\">stated<\/a> her opposition to the Legislation that would make masks optional in Virginia schools, saying, \u201cThe first reason that we\u2019re opposed to it is it takes away the local control\u2026.If the pandemic sparks up again in a couple of months, we don\u2019t have the power then to say masks are necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added, \u201cThe other piece is it doesn\u2019t really protect the people who need everyone around them to be masked, so it forces parents to make a decision if they\u2019re going to have to pull their children out of school again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
