In August 2021, the DOI <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.lawd.179675\/gov.uscourts.lawd.179675.155.0.pdf\">vowed<\/a> to publish notices of competitive sales in December and hold a lease sale 45 days later, two promises it failed to keep, in <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.lawd.179675\/gov.uscourts.lawd.179675.155.1.pdf#page=10\">court filings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden just told the American people he\u2019ll work like the devil to lower prices at the gas pump. But the lack of progress on federal lease sales means he\u2019s not trying very hard,\u201d Kathleen Sgamma, president of the Western Energy Alliance, said in a statement. \u201cThe department continues to miss deadlines, drag its feet, and ignore a judge\u2019s ruling to hold sales.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Biden Administration is intent on preventing American producers from developing the energy we have at home to meet our country\u2019s needs and lower gas prices,\u201d Sgamma said. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/11\/federal-court-louisiana-joe-biden-social-cost-climate-change\/\">(RELATED: Federal Court Halts Major Biden \u2018Social Cost\u2019 Climate Policy In Victory For Republican States)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under the Mineral Leasing Act of 1920, the interior secretary is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/30\/226\">required<\/a> to hold lease sales \u201cat least quarterly.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7374268\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7374268\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Interior Secretary Deb Haaland attends a ceremony on Oct. 8 at the White House. (Olivier Douliery\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Meanwhile, the price of gasoline has hit its highest level since August 2014 after briefly dipping in December 2021 and January, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/petroleum\/gasdiesel\/\">according<\/a> to Energy Information Administration data. The price of crude oil is the largest factor in gasoline prices.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden has pushed an aggressive anti-fossil fuel agenda since taking office, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/17\/joe-biden-keystone-xl-pipeline-montana\/\">nixing<\/a>&nbsp;the Keystone XL pipeline,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/20\/joe-biden-administration-interior-department-alaska-oil-drilling-energy-prices\/\">ditching<\/a> an oil drilling project in Alaska and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/08\/joe-biden-interior-department-american-petroleum-institute-gulf-of-mexico-oil-drilling-lease\/\">staying silent<\/a> on a court ruling that prohibited a massive offshore drilling lease in the Gulf of Mexico. The White House has <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/02\/joe-biden-russia-opec-rising-gas-prices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">appealed<\/a> to Middle Eastern and Russian energy producers for more oil and natural gas production.<\/p>\n<p>Still, Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eenews.net\/articles\/biden-im-going-to-work-like-the-devil-to-cut-energy-prices\/\">promised<\/a> Tuesday that he would \u201cwork like the devil\u201d to ensure gasoline prices declined.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe oil and natural gas on federal public lands belong to the American people and could help the nation lower energy prices,\u201d Sgamma said. \u201cInstead, the president lobbies Russia and OPEC to boost their production while constraining American producers. As a result, gas prices remain high and the president makes empty promises.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DOI official Laura Daniel-Davis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.senate.gov\/hearings\/2022\/2\/full-committee-hearing-to-consider-pending-nominations\">said<\/a> that oil and gas leases were ongoing during a Senate hearing on Feb. 8, an assertion Sgamma characterized as \u201cflat out incorrect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reality is there hasn\u2019t been a single onshore lease sale since the Biden Administration took office and it\u2019s unclear there\u2019s one on the horizon,\u201d Sgamma said.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
