The Philippines\u2019 DOH confirmed it did not publish the statement.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/7dW69\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">image<\/a> bears the DOH logo and the headline \u201cDOH Omicron Alert\u201d across the top. The alleged statement goes on to claim omicron can infect people in as quickly as 20 seconds and is spread by asymptomatic people. It also states that reinfection with the virus is more fatal than the initial infection and recommends people wear masks at all times, even at home.<\/p>\n<p>The statement, however, is not from the DOH. The DOH\u2019s archive of <a href=\"https:\/\/doh.gov.ph\/press-releases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press releases<\/a>&nbsp;and its \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/doh.gov.ph\/2019-nCoV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Latest Updates<\/a>\u201d page include no such statement. A Jan. 16 statement on the verified <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/OfficialDOHgov\/posts\/302638341902945\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DOHgovph\/status\/1482913830321913857\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> pages of the agency debunked the statement as fraudulent.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"und\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1d9ohj7C7u\">pic.twitter.com\/1d9ohj7C7u<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Department of Health (@DOHgovph) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DOHgovph\/status\/1482913830321913857?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe Department of Health denounces the card on the right claiming to be a DOH Advisory,\u201d the post begins, before addressing each claim in order, adding that \u201cACCURATE, TIMELY INFORMATION saves lives!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The information in the fake alert is a mix of true and false claims. A spokesperson for the World Health Organization (WHO) told <a href=\"https:\/\/factcheck.afp.com\/doc.afp.com.9XF7XC\">AFP<\/a> that it was \u201ctoo early\u201d to determine whether omicron took 20 seconds to infect adults and children. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/02\/27\/fact-check-us-government-issue-statement-citizens-leave-uganda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did The U.S. Government Issue This Statement Recommending U.S. Citizens Leave Uganda?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The average time between re-infection was approximately 63 days, according to a scientific review from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2049080121010803\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Annals of Medicine and Surgery<\/a> titled, \u201cThe mystery of COVID-19 reinfections.\u201d While ICU admission was higher in cases of re-infection, the increase in severity was slight, according to the review.
