Patrons are laughing and living it up, seemingly oblivious to the perils of fraternizing during a pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the Post notes, dozens of New York City restaurants have suddenly opened Palm Beach outposts, \u201cescaping\u201d the icy weather and severe COVID-19 restrictions, following the New York City residents who left the city in droves during the height of the pandemic \u2014 and the ensuing economic downturn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Palm Beach] is really working with you, not trying to put wood in your wheels,\u2019\u2019 one restaurant owner told the Post, adding that, in New York City, dining has just opened to 25% capacity.&nbsp;\u201cI have seen so many friends of mine, I can\u2019t believe it. And all our New York staff is asking to come work here.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Back in December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bdb.org\/news\/2020\/12\/14\/financial-services-news\/new-yorkers-fleeing-to-florida-amid-the-pandemic-have-turned-palm-beach-into-the-hamptons-of-the-south-with-the-median-age-dropping-faster-than-spaghettios-from-a-toddler-s-highchair\/\">the Daily Mail<\/a> reported that families, especially, are relocating to the Sunshine State, following better weather and, it seems, more competent crisis management.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPalm Beach,&nbsp;<a id=\"mol-790c03c0-3e6d-11eb-9edd-33554b1ace39\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/florida\/index.html\">Florida<\/a>, has been a popular destination for New Yorkers looking to escape the danger of COVID-19 in the spring and the civil unrest of the summer,\u201d the outlet reported. \u201cMany of those moving to Florida are young families no longer interested in the complications of living in New York City at such a perilous time. <a class href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-12-11\/new-yorkers-turn-palm-beach-into-hamptons-south-fleeing-virus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Bloomberg<\/a><a class href=\"https:\/\/www.crainsnewyork.com\/real-estate\/new-yorkers-turn-palm-beach-hamptons-south-fleeing-virus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">&nbsp;<\/a>acquired a letter from a Sotheby\u2019s realtor to clients, claiming the median age is \u2018dropping faster than SpaghettiOs from a toddler\u2019s high chair.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re also following jobs. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-55535324\">The Insider reports that major financial firms<\/a> that once called Wall Street home are now setting up shop in and near Miami.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout 30 major financial firms are \u2018kicking the tires\u2019 in South Florida, said Kelly Smallridge, who runs an economic development agency in Palm Beach County. A handful of them are serious about shifting staff there,\u201d the Insider says. \u201cCompanies including Elliott Management, Citadel, and Moelis are among the latest to say they will open satellite offices there or allow their moneymakers to be based in Florida, executives have said.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That is likely to be a major issue for New York, which \u201cposted the biggest population decline of any [state] in the US, putting it on track for its first population fall of any decade since the 1970s,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-55535324\">according to the BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Those taking part in the exodus mostly gave financial reasons for their moves, but recent news seems to indicate that New York\u2019s state government is also suffering from a crisis of confidence. Just last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/betrayal-of-public-trust-cuomo-faces-calls-for-accountability-resignation-after-top-aide-admits-cover-up\">Andrew Cuomo\u2019s administration admitted<\/a> that they hid thousands of nursing home COVID-19 deaths from the state\u2019s official numbers, fearing a federal investigation. The news prompted New Yorkers to call for Cuomo\u2019s resignation and sparked rumors of a recall effort similar to the one taking shape against Gov.
