It has until Friday to be signed into law, otherwise the government could temporarily shut down.<\/p>\n<p>But upon reaching the Senate, the bill was <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/09\/marsha-blackburn-hold-government-funding-crack-pipes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">met with a hold<\/a>, spearheaded by Republican Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn. She cited <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/biden-admin-to-fund-crack-pipe-distribution-to-advance-racial-equity\/\">reporting<\/a> from The Washington Free Beacon that said that the Department of Health and Human Services would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samhsa.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/grants\/pdf\/fy22-harm-reduction-nofo.pdf\">provide<\/a> $30 million to local governments and nonprofits in the form of kits to make drug use safer, including crack pipes and needles.<\/p>\n<p>The White House pushed back against the Free Beacon\u2019s \u201cinaccurate reporting,\u201d and press secretary Jen Psaki <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/factcheck-crackpipes-government\/fact-check-u-s-government-officials-did-not-say-crack-pipes-would-be-distributed-in-safer-drug-kits-idUSL1N2UM2KF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> that the kits may include \u201calcohol swabs, lip balm, and other materials to promote hygiene and reduce the transmission of diseases like HIV and Hepatitis.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7373215\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7373215\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sen. Mike Lee led a letter signed by six Republicans demanding that the Senate first vote to amend the bill and bar the federal government from funding a vaccine mandate on federal employees, contractors and military members. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/01\/republican-objections-to-bidens-vaccine-mandate-could-force-weeklong-government-shutdown-chuck-schumer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Republican Objections To Biden\u2019s Vaccine Mandate Could Force Weeklong Government Shutdown)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to stand against these mandates until they are discontinued in ambition, design, and practice,\u201d they wrote in the letter, first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/gop-senators-urge-colleagues-demanding-roll-call-vote-defund-bidens-vaccine-mandates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> by Fox News. \u201cFor that reason, we are writing to let you know that we will not consent to a time agreement that eases passage of the Continuing Resolution (\u201cCR\u201d) now before the Senate absent an agreement to allow for a roll call vote on an amendment that defunds the enforcement of these vaccine mandates for the spending period covered by the CR.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While holds can be broken if 60 senators decide to do so, they can delay a bill\u2019s progression through the Senate, not to mention that any changes made to the short-term bill would require that it again pass the House.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
