And we heard from Dr. Moore last week, and again yesterday, that he is now working on a plan that will allow us to remove the vaccine passport system. My friends, this is great news and a sign of just how far we have come together in this fight,\u201d Ford said at a press conference on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario\u2019s chief medical officer, asserted on Thursday that \u201cevidence is showing we\u2019re making remarkable improvement in all of the key metrics\u201d related to Chinese coronavirus in the province, making it possible to \u201creview all public health measures that are in place.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Ford insisted this sudden announcement of a timetable for lifting coronavirus restrictions had nothing to do with the massive Freedom Convoy protests in major cities across Canada. He said his decisions were based purely on \u201cscience\u201d and he would \u201cnever ever negotiate\u201d with demonstrators who \u201cbreak the law.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/toronto.ctvnews.ca\/doug-ford-says-plan-in-works-to-remove-ontario-s-vaccine-passport-system-1.5777857\"><span>CTV News<\/span><\/a><span> noted that Ontario residents are presently \u201crequired to show proof of vaccination at indoor dining facilities such as restaurants and bars, as well as meeting and event spaces, gyms, concert venues and other settings.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Contrary to Ford and Moore\u2019s talk of improving conditions and evolving science, CTV pointed out that the omicron variant of Chinese coronavirus remains highly contagious, claiming&nbsp;that vaccine booster shots would help stop the spread \u2014 a claim that is under <a href=\"https:\/\/khn.org\/morning-breakout\/omicron-can-sneak-past-a-second-booster-shot-study-finds\/\">debate<\/a>. Instead of modifying the vaccine passport systems to require boosters, Ontario officials are abruptly talking about dropping it entirely at this point after the Freedom Convoy protests.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On Monday, Ford <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/toronto\/ontario-doug-ford-announcement-covid19-february-14-1.6350761?cmp=rss\"><span>announced<\/span><\/a><span> the vaccine passport system will shut down on March 1. Furthermore, capacity limits on restaurants, bars, theaters, and gyms will be lifted this Thursday, almost a week ahead of schedule.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cLike all of you, I\u2019ve waited a long time for this news, but please never doubt that the steps we took together, as difficult as they were, were absolutely necessary and saved tens of thousands of lives,\u201d Ford said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/national-security\/2022\/02\/09\/canadian-truckers-intensify-blockade-of-top-u-s-canada-border-crossing\/\"><span>blockage<\/span><\/a><span> of the Ambassador Bridge was a flashpoint in the protests last week, since the Ontario border crossing is one of the busier and more commercially valuable routes between Canada and the United States.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>On Friday, Chief Justice Geoffrey Morawetz of the Ontario Superior Court <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/coronavirus-pandemic-health-business-detroit-ontario-6e6dcbfaa6717b0aa0f079251663290f\"><span>issued<\/span><\/a><span> an order for protesters to disperse and allow traffic to resume across the bridge.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Protesters initially responded with defiance, and the crowds only grew, but on Saturday the Windsor police were able to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickondetroit.com\/news\/local\/2022\/02\/14\/ambassador-bridge-reopens-after-week-of-protests-in-windsor\/\"><span>persuade<\/span><\/a><span> most of the demonstrators to relocate. On Sunday, after more than two dozen arrests were made and seven vehicles were towed, the company that owns the bridge announced it was \u201cnow fully open, allowing the free flow of commerce between the Canada and U.S. economies once again.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/news\/local\/michigan\/2022\/02\/13\/ambassador-bridge-reopens-after-week-long-protest-over-vaccine-mandate\/6779258001\/\"><i><span>Detroit Free Press<\/span><\/i><\/a> <span>reported no serious delays in crossing the Ambassador Bridge as of Monday morning.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s time to get traffic and trade moving across North America\u2019s busiest land border crossing again. I will always stand with every hardworking Michigander and do whatever it takes to ensure that our businesses can keep humming along,\u201d Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/news\/local\/michigan\/2022\/02\/14\/ambassador-bridge-reopening-whitmer\/6781804001\/\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI want to thank the unified coalition of business leaders and organizations representing working men and women on both sides of the border for coming together to get this resolved.
