Mexican exporters have taken out the pricey ads for almost a decade in a bid to associate guacamole as a Super Bowl tradition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mexico\u2019s Agriculture Department acknowledged that the Biden administration suspended all imports of avocados \u201cuntil further notice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cU.S. health authorities \u2026 made the decision after one of their officials, who was carrying out inspections in Uruapan, Michoacan, received a threatening message on his official cellphone,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFacilitating the export of Mexican avocados to \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 and ensuring the safety of our agricultural inspection teams go hand in hand,\u201d the U.S. Embassy wrote on Twitter. \u201cWe are working with @GobiernoMX to guarantee security conditions that allow our personnel in #Michoac\u00e1n to resume operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"es\" dir=\"ltr\">Facilitar la exportaci\u00f3n de aguacates mexicanos a \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 y garantizar la seguridad de nuestros equipos de inspecci\u00f3n agr\u00edcola van de la mano. Estamos trabajando con <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GobiernoMX?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GobiernoMX<\/a> para garantizar condiciones de seguridad que permitan a nuestro personal en <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Michoac%C3%A1n?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Michoac\u00e1n<\/a> reanudar operaciones<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Embajada EU en Mex (@USEmbassyMEX) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USEmbassyMEX\/status\/1493046000570753026?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 14, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>U.S. inspectors in Mexico monitor the avocados to make sure that they do not carry diseases that could damage U.S. crops or hurt U.S. citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was only in 1997 that the U.S. lifted a ban on Mexican avocados that had been in place since 1914 to prevent a range of weevils, scabs and pests from entering U.S. orchards,\u201d the report added. \u201cThe inspectors work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture\u2019s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Avocados are known as \u201cgreen gold\u201d in Mexico, which is the largest producer of the fruit, where drug cartels are looking to takeover as much of this multibillion dollar industry as possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAuthorities in the Michoac\u00e1n state, which grows avocados exported to the United States, have identified at least nine drug cartels there, including the brutal Jalisco New Generation Cartel, or CJNG,\u201d The Courier Journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courier-journal.com\/story\/news\/investigations\/2021\/08\/18\/mexican-drug-cartels-mexico-avocado-farmers-farming-industry\/7878297002\/\">reported<\/a>. \u201cAnd those cartels are eager to get a piece of avocado profits \u2014 extorting farmers with the threat of violence. In response, armed civilians calling themselves \u2018self-defense groups\u2019 have sprung up at checkpoints and barricades to protect crops and communities, risking death guarding the land from cartels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Experts say that the industry backs these efforts to guard the crops, but Mexico\u2019s leftist president, Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador, opposes them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSelf-defense groups shouldn\u2019t exist because the security function belongs to the state,\u201d L\u00f3pez Obrador said at a news conference last June. \u201cI don\u2019t support people taking arms to face crime because it doesn\u2019t have good results and sometimes criminals infiltrate in those groups.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire\u2019s first original film, Shut In, has made its cinematic debut, being met with rave reviews.
