The Prime Minister\u2019s office denied sending the letter.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Canada is facing ongoing protests in Ottawa and other border areas over COVID-19 vaccine mandates and restrictions against truck drivers and unvaccinated citizens, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2022\/02\/10\/world\/protests-in-canada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a>. Protesters blockaded several border crossings, including the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor, disrupting trade between Canada and the U.S., The Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/coronavirus-pandemic-business-health-detroit-canada-20f273b32bfa8ef695fdabcc7e11321e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A Facebook image claims to show a letter from Trudeau to protesters, stating he would meet with demonstrators under the condition that they were vaccinated. \u201cTrudeau finally offers to meet with the truckers, here\u2019s the letter,\u201d the post\u2019s caption says.<\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence the letter is authentic. Check Your Fact didn\u2019t find any <a href=\"https:\/\/pm.gc.ca\/en\/news\/statements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press releases<\/a> from Trudeau\u2019s office stating he would meet with the protesters under such conditions. Canadian media outlets such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/ottawacitizen.com\/search\/?search_text=trudeau+letter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ottawa Citizen<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/search?q=trudeau%20letter&amp;section=all&amp;sortOrder=relevance&amp;media=all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CBC<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/search\/?q=trudeau+letter&amp;mode=all&amp;S=relevant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Globe and Mail<\/a> also haven\u2019t reported on the prime minister sending such a letter.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the Prime Minister\u2019s office told Check Your Fact in an email that the \u201cletter is not from us.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/02\/02\/fact-check-justin-trudeau-unvaccinated-citizens-facebook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did Justin Trudeau Call On Canadians To \u2018Make Life Difficult\u2019 For Unvaccinated Citizens In A Facebook Post?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Several grammatical errors are also present in the letter, including no apostrophe in the phrase \u201cNations Capital.\u201d The words \u201cOttawa Convoy Protesters\u201d appear above the logo of the prime minister, which is inconsistent with other <a href=\"https:\/\/pm.gc.ca\/en\/mandate-letters\/2021\/12\/16\/minister-immigration-refugees-and-citizenship-mandate-letter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">letters<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandeis.edu\/now\/2017\/may\/commencement-trudeau-letter.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trudeau<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/pm.gc.ca\/en\/mandate-letters\/2021\/12\/16\/minister-housing-and-diversity-and-inclusion-mandate-letter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/1340083544010440704?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sent<\/a> in the past. The formatting of the letter is also different, including variations in the spacing and font.<\/p>\n<p>Trudeau previously stated he would not meet or negotiate with the protesters, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/trudeau-protest-1.6335086\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CBC<\/a>.
