There appear to be some divisions among Democrats on how to handle it. Your colleague Karen Bass running for mayor of Los Angeles trying to increase had the police force in L.A. Cori Bush, congresswoman from Missouri, is saying time to defund the police. She is sticking by that. You\u2019re the speaker. How do you think Democrats should address rising crime?\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Pelosi said, \u201cWith all due respect in the world for Cori Bush, that\u2019s not the position of the Democratic Party. Community safety to protect and defend in every way is our oath of office. We\u2019re all concerned about mistreatment of people. That\u2019s why Karen Bass had The Justice in Policing Act. We would hope to get some of that done, whether it\u2019s no-knock, chokehold, or some of those issues even if we can\u2019t get it all done.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Pelosi said, \u201cMake no mistake, community safety is our responsibility. I quote one of my colleagues from New York, Ritchie Torres, a brand new member of Congress way on the left, saying that \u2018defund the police\u2019 is dead. That causes a concern with a few in our caucus.
